Yeah, no joke. I was watching TNG the other day, and during combat, there was some sort of billowing gas venting onto the bridge. And I had to wonder WTH runs on steam on a starship bridge? And if it's not steam, what sort of noxious gas is it? And why does it always vent onto the bridge during combat? Wouldn't you want to put things like that somewhere else?

It could be a break in the atmospheric systems. The ship does have lots of air conditioning and atmospheric processing to go through. So compressed air.

Although if it happens in engineering then it's likely a coolant leak.
