I found that idea exelent, i am sorry, if that is what it take to make it on part with other cruiser!
Since it is hard to bielieve that the lance, turn rate, bo layout will ever been look at.
Something with 3 or 4 runabouts, just like the odyssey in ds9.
Just no tractor beam runabout, these things are overpowered.
That would do great to compensate all the over shortcomming.
If the akira class can have this, why the hell can a galaxy class can't!
Decks 3 and 4 in the galaxy's saucer are almost entirely shuttlebay 1, it can hold a rather large compliment as well.
Federation vessels have a standard range of deck size at roughly 3.5 meters (it varies a bit, but that's a solid average number to use). That means on a ship with quantifiable volume (the saucer of a galaxy is somewhat larger than an Akira's, but close enough for comparative purpose) you're pretty readily able to come up with interior volume.
Minus the weapons pod the Akira is a 19 deck ship. 14-15 of which in the primary hull are, in full or in part, hangar space. In addition, the Akira is sourced as being capable of carrying 40+ combat craft plus several more (sources vary but it's in the 10-20+ range) support ships.
That's a hell of a lot more than a two deck shuttle bay in a Galaxy. Support craft complement alone is more than a Galaxy carries, and that's not even considering the combat squadron.

If I remember correctly from the Ed Whitefire blueprints, the Main shuttlebay on the D has a multideck maintenance/storage area under the shuttlebay itself. Plenty of room to support a squad or 2 of fighters/attack craft. And, a hangar bay would add an interesting bit of additional strategy for putting together a G-X.
If any Fed cruiser gets promoted to carrier status, it should be the Star Cruiser, not the Dreadnought. The Dread needs to be a stronger ship of the line, rather than what it is now. Besides the Star Cruiser, being described as a CIC ship could easily be shown to have hangars.
I don't generally join a topic but I will leave this here for you, a link to the msd for the galaxy class. Is shown on the page and can be made much larger to see that the shuttle bay on the galaxy class is massive. That is not counting the Aux shuttle bay in the engineering section of the ship.
Really I don't care either way , but sometimes images can help everyone.
edit: To look into this a little bit more there are at lest 21 shuttles listed to have been with the Enterprise-D on the show , now if they are at the same time , that's a different story , but it seems that it could easily be a carrier ship if wanted that way. Like I said tho , don't really care either way , don't have the ship personally in game anyway. Just stating that it seems to be plausible that it could be used as a carrier.
Every cruiser ever designed for Star Trek has shuttle bays. That does not mean in Star Trek Online its deserving of carrier or flight-deck status. That's just not realistically how the ships are intended.
