Been playing STFs for awhile now and there is always something that I can't seem to understand.

There are instances where I have 4 random team mates in STF who can really deal lots of damage to any thing. Borg Spheres, Borg Cubes, Borg Tactical Cubes. Even those gigantic Gateways. And all these gets destroyed before you can say "Resistance is futile".

I have a couple of MkXII Disruptor Beam Arrays, Quantum Torpedoes and all those weapons that I thought can deal tons of damage. But when compared to those guys, I am nothing!

So, what am I missing here if MkXII items are not the problem?

Damage dealing in STO is more reliant on skill and build than gear.

Post your current ship build, BO layout, doffs used, and gear and we'll be able to give you better pointers.

Are these random team mates in beam boats or cannon shooters? DPS wise, it's harder for a beam boat to get to the top of the dps meter compared to cannon shooters. Not impossible, but it's not easy mode either.

Escorts with cannons will always out-DPS a cruiser with beams. It's just a fact of STO.

That being said, a proper build can increase your beam output. You didn't mention what consoles you have, what powers your BOs have, etc.

There are other tricks you can do to increase your damage output: satellite turrets placed in the right spot add a bit. If you're Sci, Photonic Fleet is similarly useful.

this is the EASIEST way to be effective in STF's

http://hilbertguide.com//#PvEscort

its simple, brute force power.

Its not the most fun to fly (hence why i dont use it)

but its a good place to start.
