So I've been using my Vesta ( Aventine Tactical Variant and loving it I might add.
But I always come about 2nd or 3rd place in that fleet action with my Aventine, I have it set up as Full aux cannons IE Aux dps setup.
I got this crazy thought to try out my moth balled galaxy Retrofit, so I pulled it out of space dock loaded as a beam boat with a quantum in the front and a Tricobalt in the back the rest all dual beams in front and single beams on the back.
Only two tact abilities Beam Overload and High yield Torpedo.
So yea I Came first in the fleet action, i'm not sure if its based on dps but I couldn't believe it. (I joking said to myself I will make a touph galaxy class when I was fitting it out lol)
Just thought id share this weird experience as I know the Galaxy Retrofit is pretty much as weak as a Teir 5 ship gets.

That being said, I have seen a few Dreadnoughts and retrofits do well even in PVP. One in particular is just vicious in Ker'rat. You can check some of the videos on YouTube for further inspiration

i got 1st twice with my gal x, so no big deal, the reason behind this i think is that some player don't master their escort, there is also some instance where you only play with cruiser and some are not build for dps
The thing is, we really don't know *what* exactly is counted towards the score outside of DPS for this event. There is anecdotal evidence that healing gives good points, but there is no evidence/documentation that any additional consideration is given to killing shards/Tholians outside of the DPS applied.
Given that the legacy Fleet actions are pretty much ENTIRELY have their scores based on DPS/damage (BtP,SB24, Gorn Invasion, Big Dig, etc) and Cryptic's proven record at being kings of the copypasta, it follows that CE would be no different.
As for the OP - congrats! You are at a disadvantage in that ship, sadly. Perhaps you had crappy teammates?
I also came in first yesterday in a Gal-R. It was mostly a test to see if I could.
I was healing my team constantly. Every time I saw someone's shields start to go down I'd slip them a TT, or a TSS2, or an ES. If I saw their hull start to drop, I'd give them an A2SIF, an HE, or an ET.
Different from my usual escort play, but actually quite fun.
Ah yes, "Iconians", the immortal demons of air and darkness allegedly waiting in subspace. We have dismissed this claim.
the CE event favors healing ships like the Galaxy R and Ambassador R i fought CE in a Fleet Defiant and did not even place and that thing can bruise things badly but my Ambassador R on another char has bare minimum DPS unless i boost the systems but i get consistent 1st place by just healing things and firing on the CE so this event is different its good to have DPS but it is not the king in this mission healing is.
Actually over 140 CE runs over 10 types of captain and ship combinations, I think the Mirror Vo'Quv might actually be the best ship for the mission, better than even the Recluse or Kar'fi. Load it with 4 beam arrays, the KCB, and a Hargh'peng (yes really), pop FAW once per Tholian wave to ensure you get points for 'helping' to kill them, and otherwise focus on the CE. With a Gravity Well, the 'Peng damages not only the CE but also any shards you snare when it explodes, the extra engineering stations let you heal your teammates just shy of being a full cruiser, and your BoPs have both THY and the durability to survive in a FAW-rich environment. Its funny how things can work out to make 'lesser' ships shine sometimes.
