CE is a failure as far as team play goes. The highest dps ships win, like in everything else in this game. The scoring system needs to be changed so that everything a player does gives points. If a science ship grav wells shards and prevents them from going to the CE, it should give bonus points, if a cruiser heals his escort, it should give bonus points.
A cruiser tossing heals gives you points now, as stated in the dev blog. I got first place on 3/4 out of my 5 toons. One was a pure DPS tac. Another was a Sci throwing Grav Wells, Torp Spread, and Warp Plasma around, with a few heals. Yet another was an Excelsior Eng flinging around heals, while doing a little pecking away at the CE. So, I don't think this event is as much of a DPS race as the other Fleet Actions. In fact, it's one of the least biased towards DPS where scoring is concerned.

Also the CE event fails because I, like many other college students have spent the last 2-3 weeks getting ready for finals and this week and last week taking finals. It would be nice to extend the CE event one or two weeks more so that the college kids that don't have 28 hours in a day can participate.
I'm also a university student doing my finals now, and I had the time to finish the event on all 5 toons. It's a matter of planning your time well, and studying smart. It's all about a tradeoff.

Besides, STO is just a game, and the additional dilithium is simply a drop in the bucket in the long run. Don't worry too much about losing out this time. There'll always be more events in future, and it pretty much evens out in the long run.
Take it easy!

I, for one, LOVE it and will be extremely sorry to see it go.

I've managed first place in my Vesta (using sci character) on at least three occasions, alternating between attack, healing and crowd control. Best I've managed in my Fleet Heavy Escort Carrier, with my tac, was 2nd place - but I'm fine with that.

A mission that rewards players for healing etc, and has a little less emphasis on DPS, is a BIG win in my view.

Sounds like someone did not bother to read any of the info and just assumes DPS wins. It does not. I have gotten 1st place on my galor 3 or 4 times.

and they cant structure a global, 24 hours, 365 day game around a certain subset of the planets population, and even then 10 mins of play is not exactly going to ruin your exams.

The Event was a success in my opinion.

3. Escorts. Highest DPS definitely doesn't guarantee the 1st place.

4. DPS cruisers.

I think most escorts could first place easily if their pilots switched to a kinetic build

My fleet norgh/ning'tao can first place pretty consistantly - I simply switch my energy for kinetics (quantums) and load a tac boff with hy/spread - using my standard aux2bat build, its firing off hy3s constantly, while enjoying considerable buffs due to the weapon power being dumped into aux (delicious beam overloads..)

Problem is everyone has yet to realise ce is a kinetic damage playground, not a place for energy (unless you only target the tholians...which is viable)

If you think cramming for finals is hard work, you're in for a rather rude awakening when/if you graduate and enter the real world.

My Fleet Patrol Escort flown by a tactical with Mark 11/12 jem'hadar(Upgraded the other day), and mark 12 polaron weaponry, and a mark 11 quantum torpedo with THY1 and TS2, plus CRF2 and CSV2 (less than ideal I know), usually gets 1st or 2nd on CE.

My Hegh'ta BoP flown by a tactical with (until recently) mark 11 Jem'hadar and fleet mark XII polaron weaponry, and a fleet quantum torpedo mk XII with the same setup as the escort, mostly normally gets 3rd place, and has gotten 2nd ONCE.

My Odyssey Star Cruiser flown by an Engineer, with six mark 11 PHASED POLARON beam arrays, one Phased Polaron Dual Beam Bank, and a rear-mounted breen transphasic cluster torpedo, using beam overload 3, beam fire at will 2, and Eject Warp plasma 3 consistently gets 1st place.

So no, DPS is not king. :p

OP...

I don't know what to say... But... you know... You're wrong... Really wrong.

First off, the CE is the first instance that really dosen't rely fully on DPS to decide who is the most contributing player.
I was a Sci ship the other day that did little else but to heal other people and deal with Tholians and Shards...

Guess what... He scored first place.
My name may say "PWE member", but I will never be.

I don't find it a failure, I had fun, and won 1st many times with different classes and ships. Besides just winning with DHC DPS on escorts and battlecruisers, I have won on my eng cruiser with mostly healing, my sci ship with combination of healing and dps using repulsors , grav well, warp plasma, and pets.

You can place first on heals alone. I have a brand new level 50 engineer in an assault cruiser placing first with 6 blue Mk X Tet beams and 2 green Mk X quantums. But I'm constantly tossing ET and ES around as well as TSS and HE, all as soon as they come off CD.

On a side note I've found that using 2 copies of faw to get aggro on the large shards as they spawn and maintain the highest speed possible while circleing the CE. You can get the shards to chase you and not be able to catch you. I've flown around with 4-6 of them following me nearly entire matches. And its seems only so many of them spawn. That keeps the shards off the people who don't want to move away from them. You just have to watch yourself if no one is killing the Tholians because their tractor beam can ruin your day if your doing that.

I don't mind that I usually got 3rd place , but I did sometimes get 1st in my Fleet Excel beam boat with TOS phasers. It's all in what you do, not how much damage you do.
