# 1 Nerf The Alpha Strike!
05-07-2013, 12:34 PM
For those of you saying "What's an 'Alpha Stirke'?"

It is when a (normally, but not always cloaked) ship lies in wait for an opportunity to power up on specific abilities, in a specific order, in order to destroy a single shield facing in a split second, only to have a salvo of high yield torpedos hit the hull instantly after destroying ANY ship in a matter of seconds in PvP. There are variations on it, and unless you know it's coming there is no defense for it. In fact by the time you react, you are dead. Don't believe me, look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMqbpi2rDPg [note; the playback is at a slowed speed and it still happens nearly instantly]

It does not have to be a KDF ship, & it does not have to be Tetryon. If you've ever done a "casual" PvP you will have seen that there are -secret- PvP DHC escort builds that give you 0 chance unless you spend hours for days for weeks trying to learn and specialize in countering them. Even your little Fleet Tac Escort with all Elite DHCs and MK XII vr consoles has no chance vs the specialty builds, nor does your Engineering Ody with 5 resistance consoles and top end shields, etc. Essentially there is only ONE way to win in PvP because everthing else has been nerfed. Tricobalt Dispersal Patterns (nerfed), the 6'peng (running all harg'pengs), and anything else that ever provided even a slight chance vs these build is immediately nerfed. So.... let's nerf these things and make it even and fair for all.

PvP should provide a variety of ways to win with emphasis on teamwork and strategy. While those things DO factor in now, take a team of 5 escorts vs a team of 5 cruiser or sci vessels and see what happens. Better yet, next time you do a casual PvP, try taking in stout cruiser, as many different resistance consoles as you can, & find someone on the other team doing unusually well and swap your consoles to fight him and him only. That is to say if he's using Antiproton, make sure your shields have [ap] resist, add AP resist consoles, etc. See if it does any good when you try to 1v1 him.

If your post is anything like, "I have a sandwich so you can't be starving" it's time to rethink posting. ~thlaylierah
So realistically, you only need to have the exact number of doffs that you need. ~leadme2kirk

Assuming the team of Sci/Sci's isn't 100% completely incompetent and running totally bonkers setups, they'll mop the floor with the Tac/Escorts everytime.
If you feel Keel'el's effect is well designed, please, for your own safety, be very careful around shallow pools of water.

Ok, let's take a vote:

Which is more OP in PvP?

0/sci

1/tac

It didn't take me hours or days of learning counters to be able to use my TT.

Just another entry in the ongoing discussion of the same topic that's been around since beta.

Well, that was handled rather fast grim. Nice work.

Anyone who thinks a Tac captain is better than a Sci captain in PvP is simply demonstrating their lack of real PvP knowledge.

Not trolling; I'd be just as happy to see Trico Mines/Grav Well-Trac beam combo/or any other non-tac setup being just as OP to even things out. But as policy seems to be "nerf anything that gives someone a clear advantage", this is clearly an appropriate discussion.

Watch that video and tell me how TTI/II/& III in any combination would help.
