# 1 Dilithium cap so frustrating
02-08-2013, 01:33 PM
For almost 3 weeks I've been farming dilithium ok not every day but as much as possible as I want a new ship, and I have only exchanged enough for 1574 zen. . .

Anyway any tips anyone on how to get this faster or am I the only one who really wants to scream

Wut

Zen prices are at an all time low, you must be doing something wrong.

You can spend some of that Zen to get extra character slots and split the dilithium farming across them. Each character has their own 8k refinement allowance.

Zen surveys are a good source of income, if you know how to manipulate the questions/responses to your advantage.

Tagging and breeding Epohhs allows you to earn up to 400 Romulan Marks per Elder Epohh, which can be cashed in for 4000 dilithium.

Run one or two Infected Space Elites every time you play - you get 1 Borg Neural Processor and 75~115 Omega Marks - five of the former can be cashed in for 1000 dil, whilst every 50 OMs are worth 500 dilithium.

Investigate Officer Reports are now available every 30 minutes, netting 960 dil per run.

Game features I'd like to see improved / expanded: Better Ship Interiors // BOff Costume Slots

I assume that the reason for the dil refining cap is to keep the cost of Zen from skyrocketing. Without the cap, the players who relentlessly farm dil would buy up all the lower priced Zen within a matter of minutes, and casual players would be forced to take up dil farming or risk never having access to a cash free source of C-store currency. Essentially, it would turn the game into more of grind-fest than it currently is.

That said, I second what's already been said by the other responders. Multiple characters are the way to go - there are easy ways to earn dil on alts (for example, the "Path to 2409" mission, the Q event, certain assignments, etc.). What Sumghai said about the STFs is absolutely true (though I'd extend it to all Omega STFs, not just ISE); you can net 3000+ dil in a single run if you're lucky.

If you've got Contraband, there's a great DOFF mission for you.

5 Contraband + 4 hours + 1 Security Officer = 2,000 Dilithium

Also, if you have prisoners in your DOFF roster, or have EC to spend? (edit: updated link to newer post with updated numbers)

If your goal is to earn something, there's a variety of ways to do it.

So, spending time to figure out how you can increase your ability to do Dilithium-earning activities will definitely benefit you. As suggested, buying some additional character slots will help. Account storage is very useful as well. Stuff like that. I personally like DOFFs since I can do them during my lunch break, unlike running STFs. Doing both is great as well, since the DOFFs do their thing while you're offline

Its always a fight between "Dilithium is too expensive!" and "Zen is too expensive!" However, I think its also there to reduce the attractiveness of RMT farmers from selling their services. Additionally, its probably there simply to slow us down - how much is Dilithium used for end-game equipment and all that? Nothing like having multiple, varied reasons for something...

people who are farming for ships now have it easy. when i farmed for my defiant retro and ds9 pack, dil was much higher, like 190 i think. it took a while. with the low rate now, you can buy nearly a hundred c-points a day, per character. estf's and officer reports are probably the fastest way. it takes about an hour and a half per character to reach 8k.

Cap is staying.. Even free games need money. They only put the exchange in because of lock boxes. They wanted to show that you don't have to spend real money to play the "lottery" If not then likely they would of been in legal trouble. Whats good side effect for cryptic is it keeps some people busy So... in some way thank lockboxes for the dill and exchange! If not for the exchange.. no zen without real $$$ So deal with the cap! I can buy a key at the rate now every 2 days

If I buy zen via dilithium in this game, will I be able to use the zen in other cryptic/pwe games?
