# 1 Raids
02-03-2010, 07:15 AM
Hey guys,

I know some of you reached max lvl in beta and maybe even beta raids.
So i hope there is some form of information available about this.

How important are your space skills, in raids.
Or are your away (ground) skills in raids the most important.

Right now with skill builder i'm always picking space skills over ground skills.
Now im wondering what if space skills are more PVP based and i will now suck at raids.
Does anybody have a some information about end game.
Maybe beta experience or common (not to me) knowledge.

I could really use your help.

I'd be happy to be wrong, but I don't think there are raids yet in the game.

There are no raids in the game yet. They have described "raidisodes" as being high level 5 member team content that will require a lot of team work to complete. None of those are in yet.

I wish they would take some of the Fleet Action mechanics and create some high level content that could be done by your fleet alone (without others joining in) that would be fun occasionally to have a Fleet Action mission with just your Fleet Members.

There is a form of Raids currently in the game right now, actually - you just do not need to be teamed. They are the Fleet Actions. I only played a little WOW, so not sure if there was a huge difference between Dungeons and Raids - maybe the Fleet Actions are more like Dungeons. Anyway they have objectives, once one is completed continue on etc, and then are usually capped with some sort of final encounter.

The Laurentian System Pi Canis had the best one to date - we had twenty ships trying to take on 3 Carries, one of which was a boss, and a couple Negh'Vars guarding them. INTENSE.

EDIT - Oh and sorry, to the OP - Fleet Actions will either be Space or Ground, you choose if you want to participate. Most out there I have seen are for space. However, my bet is that "Radisodes" will play out much like the current episodes, just more grand in scale and have the option to be replayed often. That means they should be a mix of ground and space. I almost feel bad for all the people not bothering to put any points in ground skills and yet expect on false assumptions that cryptic will cater to them. Trust when I say, those people who say they have not put any points in ground skills and capped because it was so easy - I don't think that will be the case with the Radisodes (of note, I also question the validity of how "easy" it was - if by die, respawn, spam fire, win or die, repeat then yes "easy" might be correct lol)

How can it be a "raid" with only 5 group members? The generally accepted meaning for "raid" content in an MMO is encounters requiring more than one standard instance group.

"Raidisodes" like that would be epic.

So far Fleet actions are the closest to WOW raids yes but, WOW raids require 10, 25 people or, in the case of the old raids in the first WOW installment, 40 people (unless you outlevel the raids).

You have to be grouped however in those raids, while you can just enter fleet actions without being grouped. They have bosses that require tactics, although WOW lately has been nerfed to oblivion, but you do need to use some tactics to get through.

I am not sure if all Fleet actions are like Starbase 24, but I just don't see how you can lose in that type of fleet action.

Can't wait to see other fleet actions however, and hoping to get to do it with groups of friends or legion.

Thats why I really don't like the term "raidisodes" they are really elite missions for highly trained, veteran groups who are good at teamwork.

Well unfortunately I don't think you can lose in any aspect of this game. It is just the way it was designed. In the Laurentian system Fleet Action believe me I died at least 4 times I can remember, three in the final fight. We would win eventually, unless all the players in the instance suddenly logged off leaving me and whoever else to face something designed for more. Then no matter what, I am pretty sure it would have been like lambs to the slaughter and we would have had to start over with another group of people in another instance.

On a note, this is the first one where I saw tactics being used. My roommate is tanking on purpose with a cruiser in space, and I am also in a cruiser but set for DPS. He actually managed to get the main boss to keep firing at him for quite some time, and just devoted his whole effort to staying alive without really firing much. I saw someone else doing the same on one of the other Carriers, whether on purpose or not I don't know. I ran in and unloaded all I could at the boss until he eventually said "bad, you die now" and then went back to firing on my roommate. Repeat process and complete, with the help of many others of course. People caught on to what was happening, and became an effort to engage, do damage, then try and get out the powerful attack arcs so as not to get destroyed. It worked quite well.

The only bad thing was that when score was assigned, I was fifth on the list (even in my measly cruiser, even with 12 or so escorts playing, ) but my roommate was second from the bottom. He got crap for a loot drop. I switched mine with him because he could use it better. We have been taking turns at the better loot, because I always out damage him but could not do it without him. That's a problem with the games implementation. I think people without groups or friends in the same cases who try to keep others alive or tank, or debuff will not be rewarded and I find that discouraging for down the road. Hopefully that changes!

Otherwise, it was so much fun I am thinking about going back tonight - either that, or racing for the next fleet action. They have been getting better and better!
