I am basically going the same route as you, using my Engineering and Science officers as defensive boosts rather than offensive. So far I am using EMP to Shields and Science Team I, and like you will be adding Reverse Shield Polarity and Polarize Hull. I am Tactical though, so I am missing out on Rotate Shield Frequency. Still though, what I have for cooldowns at the moment seems to do the trick.
What do you normally run for power levels?
i fly on attack mode. 100 power to weapons.
also anyone found they prefered the sabre over their heavy escort akira? I am finding the slight lack of maneuvering power disturbing. ive only been in one 1-1 fight so far, will have to test vs a group of 3 birds of prey, which I usually take down in about 30 seconds.
but so far im not liking the time it took me to take down one hunter escort in my new ship ...
Here's a little tip from a beta tester who tweaked his escort build from beta to live: get Jam Sensors & Tractor Beam as your science abilities - for levelling they cannot be beat!
Jam Sensors in a 1v1 is 11ish seconds of total **** - they can't fire back at you or use any nasty abilities! Most of the time I kill ANYTHING before this even wears off...even +3 battleships. It can also turn a 2v1 into a 1v1. Combined with 3 dual heavy cannons up front, stuff melts. If they are still alive, hit tractor beam to keep that downed shield facing you.
