# 1 Full cannons on a T2 Escort?
02-03-2010, 08:48 AM
I was considering to replace my torpedo with a 3rd heavy cannon on my T2 Escort.. As I understand it, 3 heavy cannons are needed to hit the best refire ... Anyone done this, and if so, how does it play out?

I have used only 1 cannon, 1 beam, 1 torp when iwas on T2 and still was topping the dps in both pve and pvp...there is no "maximized" setting. But nevertheless, 3 cannons are propably waste, i would at least keep the tube.

According to the infopost about cannons, each Heavy Cannon have a 3 sec CD when fired and a 1 sec CD for all similar weapons.. Obviously, with 2 of them I shoot like this in 6 secs:

Fire 1 - 1 sec - Fire 2 - 2 sec - Fire 1 - 1 sec - Fire 2 - 2 sec - Fire 1

With 3 guns I wouldnt have the 2 second gap, increasing my sustained damage by 1/3rd... This at the cost of a spike attack that does diddly squat unless their shields are down.

What happens with the cooldowns when Rapid Fire is used, though?

You underestimate the value of torpedoes. Energy weapons do minor damage to hull in comparison with kinetic weapons; but torpedoes damage to shields is not to be dismissed as mere 'spike damage'. There is a reason that photon torpedoes have really high dps, and why they have such long recharge timers, even with multiple tubes... they hurt shields as well as hull.

While I wouldn't expect to break a targets shields with torpedoes alone because of low rates of fire, I wouldn't count on using JUST cannons to take down a T2+ cruisers hull. A high yield quantum torpedo load would break the shield facing of a T2 cruiser far easier that 1 extra forward mounted cannon.

Or, think about it in even simpler terms. You're flying a T2 escort with nothing but cannons. Your Lt BOff skill is good, but what're you going to do for two ensign BOff skills? Besides high yield torps, there's not much fantastic stuff for ensign tactical officers. You might as well be flying a Bird of Prey.

Shrug, not at home now, but isnt there something useful for Tac Ens BO... As far as I have seen, the torps often hit a weakened shieldfacing, but the majority of damage is mitigated by whatever shields that have regenned.. If gunning on a BOP, they might evenhave time to turn another shieldfacing at you... You might be right, but have you tried a full cannon loadout?

rapid fire doesn't effect cooldown at all.

All cannons can work, eventually your cannons will be hitting almost as hard as torpedoes on hull, specially with the skill increases and such.

Basically up to you whether you want the quick burst kill when their shields are down, or faster shield downage but a bit longer to kill them once their down.

I have a hard time believeing an extra heavy cannon will come anywhere close to equalling out the damage of one or two high yield quantums getting through someones shield. The point is to learn how to use them. You don't fire torps at shields that are down you fire them before the shields go down.

Not only do torps do massive damage to hull, but abilities that are percent based impact this a LOT. 50% of 1000 is an extra 500 damage!
