Quick question about missions.

Is it possible to fail them?

So far, no matter what happens, the missions are always sure to succeed. In OB I went to lt.cmdr. 3 and didn't find any missions that I feared of failing. Are there any missions later on in the game where you can actually fail them if you screwup???

That doesn't appear to be the case. It looks like it has been designed to only go forward with success, instead of allowing for the possibility of failure.

I wish that you could fail some missions. It would be significantly more challenging.

Too many outside forces can cause a undue failure in a game like this. MMO games are not likely to ever have a possibility of failure in a mission unless it is a mission you can restart in the event of failure.

Wondering this also. had a mission whre i was susposed to "stop" a smuggler (or something like that). I figured stop the same way Kirk would, i unloaded everthing on him, but he slipped away faster then i could power up and chase. I figured i was screwed as I couldnt see him anywhere. So i proceded to gather my anomolies and was going to leave. But other enemy contacts showed up and i (again, Kirk is my mentor) decided to show um how much i like them being in the same system as me without giving me proper heads up. As i came up on them, several ships I notced behind them the ship was shasing and lost. I unloaded on him and took him to waht appeared to be 1% hull, he wouldnt and I guess couldnt die. Well the other ships where asking if they could come in, so i dispatcheted them, then all the sudden I was givin the option of taking the other ship out. it was more willing to except some photns now and blew up.

So my guess is the only way I could 'fail' that one was to leave without finding the ship (quite possible, just blind luck that i wandered into them). But if i had left would it fail, or just be an unfinished quest?

Like others say, this game is an 'I WIN' game. There is no way of failing. I'm level 14 and at this stage I've seen a few 'protect ship' missions, which would be fun and exciting, until you realize whatever you're supposed to protect... can't die. Yep, enemy ships will fire at it, and it'll lose shields/hull... but never die. That was such a let down for me. Let it fail the mission, I can always retake it and retry!

In eve you can redo failed missions... all you lose (other than if you died) is reputation with that mission giver. (at least that is the way it was last time I played eve)

Hmm, well in Champions Online, there were some missions that could be failed (I had to redo that mission a few times, it was a mission to escort some guy back to the person that gave you the mission. If he got killed on the way, that was a fail. You had to return back to the start point and do the mission again. The mission wasn't really long tho so it wasn't a big loss, still, it was challenging).

It would be fun to be able to fail some missions in STO. The randomly generated missions to protect some base on an asteroid while some gorn attempts to attack it. It would be cool to have more gorn so to get the urgency to try to aggro as much of them as possible so that they don't endup shooting at the station. (if the station could actually be blown)

I could see quite alot more possibilities for mission failures.

What do you think?

Lets not forget that if you fail it tends to be because you ship imploded which can be a costly mistake.
