Several things, I understand that it was not the intent to allow power-hue open to the players, however it was done. Moreover, this was a good thing. Why? Because more customization is good, however I do not think it should be on done on the fly, nor should it be cheap.

Why leave color changing.

Distinction, during game play I have noticed an issue. When two groups converge whether it is PVP or PVE the abundance of weapons fire and all of it being the same color sometimes makes it difficult to tell who is shooting whom. Now a few PVP players have been using to gain victory, and they do not want others to see who is firing at whom. In addition, some of us Role-play different racial factions, such as Romulans. Moreover, we have gone to great lengths to achieve a distinct look. If you saw my escort, you would think it was a Romulan Bird of prey, and I have colored all my weapons to match.

However the handful of Canon purists dont like the idea of weapons not following the TNG patterns, and ignoring that TOS the NCC-1701 Enterprise had more than three colors of weapons fire, and all of them where the Phasers, I counted 4 different colors, Red, Blue, Violet, and Orange.

Therefore, what is the compromise what would be the gesture of good faith, take the slash command out of the game. Then add a vendor on Memory Alpha and on Qo'noS. This vendor for a slight fee and some resources would color a single weapon a single color based on the Hue scale. Since the powers are tied to the Weapons and the BOs this could be done rather easy and it would keep the customization ability and keep it with in lore. This would also keep the few basic powers the intended color, and we would not see blue explosions, even though it is pleasant to see.

I think this would be a good way to show that Cryptic had listened to both points of view and did something positive.

Compromise? Here?

This is like American Politics! NO MERCY FOR THE OTHER SIDE!!!

I do like your idea, maybe add in a free color change for uncommon or rare drops would be nice also

Its a left over function from champions. In that game you can change the color of your attack powers with a little graph. A nice function that I would really like to see stay in sto. I use pink phases and torpedoes and when my ship goes poof it does it in a cloud of pink smoke. I just think it brings a bit of life and individuality to a very cookie cutter ship creation system. This is the kinda thing that cryptic known for. It shouldnt be squished it should be made to work within the context of the game.

The reason Im guessing it will be removed had more to do with being able to quickly distinguish weapons fire in terms of what the other guy is using. Some weapons fire does have different animation but stuff like phases and disrupter arrays are basically the same animation with different colors applied. Its quicker to simply force everybody to use a particular set of color then make different animations for each type of weapon.

What Id love to see is cryptic take the harder route that in the end would give us players more options and make more distinct animation for each weapon. Or do the awesome thing and make more animations for each form of weapons fire and let us choose that also. Then give us more distinct icons for what type debuff were being hit with. So we can quickly distinguish whats hitting us but still make the ships look the way we want.

No thanks; I do believe that Cryptic will put this in the C-Store though.

I second this idea and think we should push for this option as a permanent option for people. As it would please both sides.

I would think that would be very hard to do. since the colors are tied to the powers (weapons), however my option would be easy to do and they could limit the choices so as not to brake Immersion.

example:

Federation Phasers in canon have been Red, Blue, Purple, yellow, and Orange
with the Vendor they could set the Hue options to several distinct versions of these colors your Phasers would be individual and still the right color.
ie. 5 different yellows, 5 different reds, ect.

same with Disruptors
ie. 10 different greens

I would love for a dev to comment, and to pass my Idea on.

That's what I was thinking, if they were to keep powerhue they can just limit what colors each weapon type can be, so you'd still know that you're being shot by disruptors, etc. But honestly, I'm loving my purple and cyan colors <3

Why take it out, i think its a great thing, in beta i got so tired of seeing orange and green weapon fire. We can do anything to our characters just about and move our ship parts all around why not let us customize the weapon fire, would look cool for a fleet to have allt eh same color weaopns.

A wonderful idea, IMHO.

Problem is, I think the reason why we're losing the ability to tint our weapons is because of CBS/Paramount, not because it a leftover command from the CO engine.

What would make you think that? No one official has said anything even remotely like that that i know of.

I think it is pure unfounded speculation.

Leave the colors alone, they are fine they way they are now, fun to play with.
