Selling loot via the auction house or by recycling lesser loot via the replicater are the main methods.

Is there any faster way to acquire energy points or do you just sell items to acquire the points?

Sell stuff, to vendors, on the exchange, to traders, your replicator... But just sell stuff.

Also, you might want to keep selling too much to the replicator - you do get a sales penality (I think it hovers around 20% depending on the item). So, for maximizing your profits, find a trader.
But not a Ferengi one; they give you even a lower amount than your replicator.

Actually vendors on Spacestations give you more than Traders. So sell there if you can, then Traders, then Replicator.

Not true. You get some decent energy credits for doing queued PvP encounters too.
