Real crafting is usually based on a minigame. If there is no minigame then it's no crafting.
In EQ2 you can collect shards and buy/upgrade gear with those shards but nobody there would call that "crafting".

However, I think with currently 1 million accounts Cryptic can fund a large dev team which will implement real crafting earlier or later. Just give them some time.

I think crafting is the wrong word for it. I like inkering. Right now all I can do is take a white and make it a green if I have the rather large amount of 'stuff' required to do it. I like the idea behidn what they are trying to do but the implementation doesn't work for me.

First you don't know you 'skill' level, so progressing, knowing what you need to get to that next step is unclear. There needs to be a clear set of requirements to get to the next leve. EX: each item has a score to it so the low end items have a lower score than those that require more 'stuff' (maybe for each item used to make the improvement counts as 1). Then the exact number needed to progress to the next level.

Second for the amount of 'stuff' you need to improve gear the upgrade just doesn't seem worth it. I see nothing special I can do that I wouldn't be able to get completing some episodes. I think for one you should be able to see what is availbe down for further levels, don't keep it a secret. Then there should be an option for it to be BOE or BOP. BOP would be cheaper to create or might have a special skill bonus.

Third crafting will not work out very well if the exchange stays the way it is. There is no way to price shop nor is there a way to see really what is on the exchange. You cannot have a crafting economy if those that aren't intersted in crafting can't find and buy the merchandise easily.

I personally did some tinkering when I first got there but out stripped what I could make quickly and having no idea what it would take to get the stuff I wanted (nor even really knew what was there) I haven't been back to Memory Alpha.

Gosh Guys, Lighten up.

1 It is such a bad argument that the game is finished, it should be working. I do not, nor have I heard of any MMO having a finished crafting system inplace at launch. Crafting systems that are worth anything come about after the community sounds off.

2 I am tired of people saying, "We should not have to research the game we paid to play" Plain short short sighted if you ask me, you get a manual for games, and part of any MMOs manual is to look it up on the forums that the game usually offers.

3 There is a crafting system inplace, it just sux, alls you can do is upgrade current stuff. The devs have said this is just a starting point, so if you unlock it, when it is revamped, youll be able to access it -so getting all bent saying you lie you lie.....sit down, relax

Lets not look at what we dont have, lets look at what we could have, or what we have to look forward to. Stop rushing for endgame results on the first week, wait and see where this game can take us. You got a bunch of space to see, and a crew to build, get on it!!!

As it is now , i dont know much about the crafting system as i have'nt found much about it all i know is that you need to goto Memory Alpha .
there are some episodes where they create stuff they need, or modify something
so crafting does take place in Star Trek, just not on the scale of say WoW
but the crafting system in WoW is the only thing I like about that game, wouldn't mind seeing something like that in STO
