# 1 Colour Pallette for uniforms
02-04-2010, 12:54 AM
I have come to the conclusion that the preset colours available for our uniforms are insufficient. How did I come to this conclusion? By trying to turn the TNG movie uniform into the correct colour scheme of either First Contact or any episode of DS9 during the Dominion War. The colour of the shoulders on this uniform is a kind of greyish faint lilac. I've looked at pictures of movies and the show ( I have DS9 on my computer so its easy to find a reference point) and simply there is no colour option to match it.

So what do I propose? A colour pallette like the one you get in Photoshop or any real image editor. The ability to select any colour is much preferable to a very limited number of presets. There are 16.7 million colours that my monitor can produce, but STO apparently only offers a few dozen. Granted this is a decent spread, but it doesn't hit the mark between too purple or too grey or too blue that you need to get the effect of a real DS9/First Contact uniform.

Why does it matter that I can't get my DS9 uni correct? Because they gave us that uniform but we can't get it to look right. Ive settled for now for some purplish colour thats not bad in dungeon lighting but its still obviously wrong.

We need this: http://www.visibleranking.com/images..._swatches3.jpg

Its not much to ask and we already know the game is capable of this much colour variance because of the lovely phaser colour mod bug. I think this is an appropriate improvement to the idea of huge character customization.

I agree that the colour palette is not sufficient to make the correct uniforms. Be it TWoK, TOS, TNG Series, TNG Movies or DS9.

The same problem exists with the Skin colours. If you pick the lightest colours they all have a hue of pink in them.
It's impossible to make a Aenar that is white, or a Vulcan/Romulan that is pale green, or an Android that is pale yellow, or a Cardassian that is pale beige/grey. Of you pick Black you will get a very dark grey so that colour is almost 100% correct.

I too find the color palette for both the uniforms and skin tones to be somewhat... dissatisfying.

My captain is currently using a very dark blue for most of her uniform, because the darker colors are actually darker than the dark gray excuse for "black". Some of the uniforms display black differently, for example my Wrath of Khan pants are several shades lighter than the shirt, despite having the same color selected on the palette.

I wanted my captain's skin to be a very light blue color (almost white, really), but I ended up having to go with a medium blue because all of the light blues were too pink. It's not just for skin color either -- everyone's got pink eye (even the NPCs) because the "white" of their eyes is actually light pink. If I wanted a character's skin to be pink, I'd select that color. If I select white, I want it to be white!

I think the selection of colors we have is pretty good, if they actually matched the colors they are supposed to be.

The one thing that greatly irks me is that you can't get Black Pants with the TWoK uniforms.
