Obviously they'd not refer to themselves by their Borg designation, so it's only natural that they have a real name.
yeah but still i like speices 8472 better actully i know this sounds silly but i was so used to calling them that now i have to call them the undine.

I think the name is decent given that 8472 is from Fluidic Space and "Undine" are ancient Earth water spirits. However, I'd rather have kept them as 8472. The name "Undine" just seems like it's trying too hard. But at least they're not called Mermaids.

they could have made a normal unique name instead of slapping a label on them.

yeah i mean speices 8472 was well just fine and honestly i think it would have been better if they called themselfs that because rember what the funders/changelings did they never had a name for their race but they took the name changeling which everyone called them and officalyed named themsefls changelings. i honestly dont think they needed a name.

I thought it was dumb as hell that the Voyager crew kept calling them Species 8472 even they had a sit down with the guys on their little starfleet sim. As for the mythological history of the name, do I have to remind everyone of Romulus and Remus? Star Trek creators have a long history of using well known mythology for alien names even if they try to obscure the spelling like with Quo'nos/Cronus.
