Thanks SO MUCH for all your support, and we'll see you in-game!
Hey all not sure if this is in the right place, ive been reading up on the game for a while now and getting some mix reviews. I love star trek and MMO's so this seems like the best game for me EVER!, but people are saying it lacks content and is very easy to level.
So my question is, should i buy STO?
thanks
It's a bit light on content for now, but I get the feeling that'll change in the next few months. Leveling takes awhile, though. But the combat, the customization and the depth makes it worthwhile. Combat's like no other MMO I've played, and you can customize both your character, skills and ship in almost unlimited ways. I'll be sticking with this game until Final Fantasy 14 comes out, if not longer.
In terms of leveling, it depends on what you mean by "easy"..
It is not difficult to level, go out, do missions, gain skill point, level.
it can take some time, however, to level. For most people at least. Took me 3 days playing 4-5 hours a day to level to Lt. Commander (your first ship upgrade), and has taken me a comparable amount of time to get about 1/4 of the way to the next rank. Partially because there's so much to do that doesn't really help you level. Fleet actions to help get gear for your ship, Exploration missions to gather crafting resources and get exploration badges, pvp (if you're into that) to get different gear, and just cruising around looking at stuff. Some of the systems they've come up with are amazzing, like th Beytan IV, which is a planet, surroudned by an asteroid belt, b eing formed by the moon that's still only half disintegrated.
I have not found the content lacking -- there are a sufficient number of missions that I am consistently doing missions about a level below me. Add to that the repeatable missions (patrols, exploration), and there's no real reason to "grind".
I've actually found the leveling speed to be really slow -- especially coming off of Champions Online. Given the amount of time I've put in, I wager I'd be about double my current level in most other MMOs. Well, maybe 1.5x my current level.
STO certainly has a few rough spots -- some of the content just plain doesn't work right now -- but you can play around it. If you're inclined to get bent out of shape by such things, though, you might want to give it a few months before picking it up.
