# 1 A few ships or Many ships?
02-04-2010, 09:29 AM
Are there really enough ships.... i mean actual ships... not just templates with different configurations and looks. but SHIPS in this game.... i mean come on its star trek for crying out load. so far it seems like we get one ship per tier with exchangalbe parts to make them look SLIGHTLY, OR MAYBE even moderately different. but with the same chasis and hull designs. TO ME THAT SUCKS and it is just not enough.

here is a lil list called
WHERE IS THAT CLASS.........

Where is the: Nebula
Where is the: exselcior... come on that should be here way before a connie lol
where is the: oberth class science vessels
where is: steam runner
where is: the ktinga for the klingons

2 questions
does anyone agree or disagree with me? Why?
any other ships that i have not listed that you feel NEED or SHOULD be in this game?

There are enough ship options that you should never see your exact design flying around. Between color, windows, nacelles, saucer etc you can make it look like your own. As for how many types of ship, each tier or each type Escort, Science and Cruiser all have three options. And don't forget eventually you will more than likely see new classes in the C-Store.

It's in the game but it's called Zephyr class instead.

Agree with you about the others though, there needs to be more variety. Warping into SOL is like seeing an armada of just Miranda class ships and the occasional TOS Connie.

This game has INCREDIBLE customization from characters to ships.

I have to give Cryptic huge credit for it.

But I do agree that eventually we will need more ships

The Vesper is NOT the Excelsior... its secondary hull and nacelles bear a slight similarity... thats it.

Well there are 3 classes of ships per tier with the exception of the starting tier. Each of those has 3 actual classes assigned to them from which you can mix and match. If you think about it that way, there 39 unique classes, and a bunch of in-betweens. Now most of those are new classes Cryptic created, and only 13 are classes that have actually appeared on the shows/movies.

If you think about it though, Starfleet really didn't have that many classes in service at any single time. The Constitution Class, for instance, had gone out of service by the time TNG rolled around. The Excelcior and Miranda classes were still in service, but were definitely considered the aging portion of Starfleet. The Oberth class was retired from Starfleet and is only seen in TNG as private ships.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the classes choosen are pick so that parts can be interchangeable. The Nebula class for example is a class which is incredible unique in it's layout. I don't see it fitting well into the existing ship customization architecture. That relegates it to the special ship class.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

What I'm curious about is if the ship "classes" within each tier and type (ie: tier 2, science vessel has 3 classes), are arbitrarily cosmetic choices or do they truly have any significance on gameplay as the ship listing section on the main STO site implies?

Purely cosmetic.
