I have little suggestion about cannons.

As it is cannons have half damage at 10km from target and nominal damage at point-blank range.

I think it will be a good idea to have nominal damage somewhere near 1,0 -1,5km from target. It very rare when we have <1 km between our ship and target and usually, if we in this range we are unable to fire cannons because we are on top or under the target.

The core dissipating mechanics still in play but escorts and BoPs captains can use full power of mighty cannons

If devs reading this, please consider an idea.

You keep using that word (nominal). I do not think it means what you think it means.

(i think you mean optimal).

i wouldn't mind a slight rescaling of cannons damage over distance - it seems kind of unfair that our greatest weapon requires us to get right next to the ship and stay there to do damage, while our only defense is to keep moving.

As is, i don't bother to get closer than about 2-3km. I suffer about 15% damage or so at that point, but to be fair, my DPS is already so retardedly high, it doesn't really matter.

So yeah.

Just replace "nominal" with "Damage stated in weapons tray tool tips"
