# 1 Equipment for Ground Combat
02-21-2014, 02:01 AM
Hi all, I have spent a lot of time getting my ship the way i want it, now it's time for the ground

As a TACTICAL captain i enjoy using the Fire Kit, but was wondering what gear i should be aiming for? Should i go with fleet gear, or reputation system? What are the best combo of weapons to equip?

Also, what weapons should i equip my ground party with?

Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hold off on the kits for the time being as a re-work for them is in progress.

As for weapons, Melee Weaponry vs Borg.

Anything else is really up to how you want to set your team up. I usually have my Eng with the heavy weapons (i.e. minguns), my Tac's with either rapid fire or pulsewave, and my Sci are snipers. As for energy type, I use AP or Disruptor for the majority of it.

For a Tactical captain I would suggest using the full Omega Force set (Armor, Weapon, and Shield) obtained via the Task Force Omega reputation system. Your secondary weapon should be either a Fleet Advanced Pulsewave Assault [Dmg]x2 [CritX] or a Romulan Plasma Split Beam Rifle Mk XII [CritX]x2 (Romulan Reputation store). Both of those weapons would be useful for swapping out based on the mission. I'd suggest using a Fire Team Mk XII kit from the fleet embassy. As for devices, I'd suggest 140x Large Hypo, the Shard of Possibilities, Frosted Boots, and 140x Large Power Cell. If possible, I'd suggest getting a Gambling Device off of the exchange for about 2M EC, they provide +10% Critical Chance, 10% Critical Severity, and +10% Dodge chance. You may slot it, use the buff, and then deslot the gambling device while keeping the buff bonus. Duty officers, I'd suggest 3x Security Officer (Chance for extra officers with Security Escort), 1x Sensors Officer (Voth Variant - Enemy damage resistnace reduced when using Target Optics), 1x Biochemist (Fleet Support Pack Variant - Cooldown reduction on Hypos/Charges/Cells - Rare quality is sufficient), and 1x Assault Squad Officer (Chance to reduce all grenade cooldowns by 6 seconds whenever a grenade is thrown).

As for bridge officers, I'd suggest the following for an away team:
  • Science Bridge Officer:
    • Abilities: Hypospray Dylovene I, Medical Tricorder II, Vascular Regenerator II, Nanite Health Monitor I
    • Gear: Full MACO set
    • Ideal race traits: Creative, Spiritual, Hyper Metabolism, Peak Health, Empathic
  • Engineering Bridge Officer:
    • Abilities: Chroniton Mine Barrier I, Shield Recharge II, Reroute Power to Shields II, Equipment Diagnostics II
    • Gear: MACO Shield and Armor. Weapon - Synchronic Proton Distortion Prototype Assault Rifle
    • Ideal race traits: Aggressive, Creative, Lucky, Peak Health, Hyper Metabolism
  • Tactical Bridge Officer #1 (defensive):
    • Abilities: Battle Strategies I, Photon Grenade II, Suppressing Fire II, Overwatch II
    • Gear: Full Omega set
    • Ideal race traits: Aggressive, Lucky, Soldier, Peak Health, Teamwork
  • Tactical Bridge Officer #2 (offensive):
    • Abilities: Battle Strategies I, Suppressing Fire I, Target Optics II, Fire on My Mark II
    • Gear: Omega Force Armor + Shield. Weapon - Romulan Plasma Split Beam Rifle Mk XII [CritX]x2 (Romulan Reputation store)
    • Ideal race traits: Acute Senses, Covert, Aggressive, Peak Health, Soldier, Fury,

Thank you for the comments.

majortiraomega, I guess the typical play style is that I should be the one doing most of the exposing for my away team to exploit?

I just bought the Gambling Device with left over lobi. Can't argue with +10% Critical Chance, Critical Severity, and Dodge chance!

Is it still possible to acquire the Shard of Possibilities & Frosted Boots? Looks like these were event rewards and as a returning player I fear I might have missed them.

I am both surprised and delighted to see the Synchronic Proton Distortion Prototype Assault Rifle still has a place at end game. That, and the Federation Type 3 Phaser used to be my favorite ground weapons.

Cheers.

A tactical captain on the ground. You guys may be gods in space, but the ground is ruled by us Engis!

That aside, on my tac captains, I tend to run Fire Team kits since they are fun and very effective. As equipment and weapons go, I change that up based on what I am doing.

In EGSTFs, I run the full MACO set with a Tsunkatse Falchion/Pulsewave Assault (usually phased tetryon since those borg shields are stupidly hardened) and either 1) close combat kit, or 2) stick with fire team.

In all other ground content, I run the full mk XII dyson ground set and a pulsewave of some kind (sniper shotty anyone?). The resists on that are crazy high to begin with, and when you crouch you get even MORE resists. Add in the fact that your shields will NEVER stay down (love that shield proc on the dyson shield), all you need is a healer and you never die. Ever.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.
Tired of Wasting EC and Time trying to get Superior Romulan Operative BOffs? Here's a cheap and easy way to get them, with an almost 100% chance of success.
Why the Devs can't make PvE content harder.

Not necessarily. My favorite combination is the Omega set with the Romulan Plasma Split Beam Rifle. That gives you an expose weapon and an exploit weapon. Most of the time I stick with the Romulan Split Beam, switching to the Omega Force Autocarbine when I need to disable a target with the gun's unique proc. Your Science officer is using the full MACO set; which gives your full team the MACO three piece bonus. This proc provides a chance to expose attackers when they attack you or your allies. The same proc is also on the Omega shield. Many of your bridge officers have defensive abilities that proc exposes when attacked. The bread and butter ability will be Target Optics. Target Optics is Attack Pattern Alpha for ground combat. Not to mention it has a chance to expose all targets within 35 meters of your character upon activation. Grab a Voth Sensors Officer duty officer off of the exchange. It applies a -20 all damage resistance for 15 seconds to all enemies within 35 meters of you in your 180 degree forward arc. Strike Team + Target Optics + Aim + Split Beam Secondary attack will typically vaporize weak groups of enemies.

Frosted Boots are obtained from the Winter Event held every December. If you have the store unlocked in the reputation tab, then you should be able to buy it if you have the winter items. I'd be happy to send you some winter items to buy the boots if you need them. However, if the store is not unlocked, then you will need to wait until this coming December to pick them up. As for the Shard of Possibilities, that item is obtained from the mission "Boldly they Rode..." during the Featured Episode rerun. We are do for one such rerun, I'd guess sometime between April and July we should see one such event.

Yes, despite the fact that it is dated; the Distortion Rifle is still one of the best weapons in the game. The Type 3 Phaser is also viable in place of a Split Beam Rifle, but I personally prefer Romulan Plasma for the Plasma and Disruptor procs all in one weapon. There is no better long range pressure damage weapon with an exploit attack in the game than a Romulan Plasma Split Beam Rifle. The Type 3 is useful for massive spike damage and for area of effect knockback/chain stun.
