# 1 Weapon Ranges analysis
02-05-2010, 05:26 AM
Hey all,

If you've ever wondered exactly what impact range has on your weapons in space combat, you might find this interesting:

Weapon Ranges

It's an analysis of the testing I've done so far on the effects of range on different weapon types.

Hope you find it useful.

Very nicely done; I like that you explained your method of testing and the margin of error.

Good graphs and detailed analysis.

To be honest, I was expecting to find flaimbait upon reading the title of this thread. I'm pleasantly surprised to see I was wrong. Definitely be sure to update us if you do anymore tests in this area.

Thanks for the great analysis (and graphs ). You mentioned you don't have a log analyser so your sample rate is small. Here you go:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/combatlogparser

Even though it was designed for CO, I've been using it extensively in STO. The combatlog.txt file format is identical.

("/combatlog 1" -> turn on logging and "/combatlog 0" -> turn off logging).

Thanks, Legatus - I noticed another post you made about this, and will be giving it a try for my next round of messing about with stuff.

Awesome information, thanks! I find myself pining for the system like SFB / SFC where accuracy and damage are affected by range and weapon type, so it's nice to see that range has an effect on damage at least.

Yet another thread that should be stickied - simply because it gives FAR more information than the devs have ever released on how their own game works.

Nicely done!
