I have both Fleet AP weapons and Rom Plasmas. I switched to AP when the omni beam came out. I've never parsed, but I'm hoping the numbers guys here can help me out. I feel like I killed things faster with Rom Plasma, and I've seen threads lately where people argue that Rom is better than AP. So what I'm wondering is, is it dumb to have Rom Plasma up front and a rom turret, KCB, and AP omni beam in the back? My thinking is that the beam does more damage than a turret. I don't know, however, if that's really true since the AP beam won't get a boost from my Tac consoles like the plasma turret would. Rainbow boats are a no no in the community, but is the omni AP beam an acceptable exception?

it depends on how many bonuses you have to the turret. The AP beam does a bunch of damage. At *some* point, a turret with say 5 tac consoles and the rom set bonus and whatever else behind it is likely to out dps the AP beam.

At a glance you could install a cheap blue plasma XII or XI turret to see how close it is to the AP beam. If it is close or above the AP beam, buy a good plasma turret. If it is way less, keep the AP beam. (remember to check this in space outside a planet or in a combat zone etc to get your numbers right).

Also to consider is your main weapon type. If you use beams and FAW, a beam might be better than a turret. If you use DHC, a turret might be better than a beam....

All true but throw in the Voth Warp core and you get a 20% boost to all AP weapons

It all depends on the Class/Ship/Set up

I see you mention turrets so I assume you are running some type of escort. If it is romulan/kdf and you are cloaking I suggest using the romulan plasma utilizing the sci console slots to increase plasma dmg via embassy consoles. If it is a fed escort I would suggest running AP, crit consoles where u can, rom crit boffs from embassy. the Omni beam and warp core are a good starter set due to ap dmg boost for the set but there is one prob with it if your tring to beam overload with a dbb up front the Omni beam is 360 and will BO 9/10 times before the dbb will so u lose a lot of dmg beter to get rid of both Omni core and beam and replace with a amp warp core that will give you most of the ap dmg bonus back...but like I said it really matters on ship, class and style, let me know what ship and class you want to use and I can help ya out with a proven build...

GL&HF out there

Don't you mean the Advanced Obelisk Technology Set gives a 10% antiproton damage with its 2-piece set bonus?

Something you also need to take into account: BOff powers. Powers that boost cannons (ie CRF, CSV, etc) will continue to boost your rommie plasma cannon weaponry, but they won't boost your AP BA.

Also any tac consoles that boost plasma won't do diddly to your BA. Just some thoughts.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.
Tired of Wasting EC and Time trying to get Superior Romulan Operative BOffs? Here's a cheap and easy way to get them, with an almost 100% chance of success.

My comments were to answer "is it useful to use the AP beam with rom plasma build" and the answer, as I said, depends on whether total bonuses make the turret > the beam, which depends on ship and gear.

Swapping back to a full AP build using the beam and core is potent. I prefer it to amp -- I have to work much harder to keep the amp bonus, while the set bonus is passive. I may eventually replace my core but it will be one of my last upgrades.

Apples to apples ... ap builds shine if you have a high crit. As a rom in a non-rom ship, I like my ap weapons with the set bonus.... As a rom in a rom ship, where you cannot get the set bonus.... rom plasma or elite fleet disruptors seem reasonable. The fleet AP weapons lack what you really want... critd X2 accuracy X2 is not an option to stack cridD with the weapon perk. /shrug both types are good

First, the bonus is 10% rather than 20% and the bonus is tied to a set bonus with the Omni-directional Antiproton Beam Array. Secondly, the Warp Core you refer to is the Obelisk Subspace Rift Core from the "Sphere of Influence" episode. It has nothing to do with the Voth.

Ok guys, please be gentle as I have never parsed, min/maxed, or done a build in the skill planner until now.

Here is my current build:

http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?...azardapbuild_0

I included my traits, Boffs, and Doffs in the description area. I'm not building for PvP, mainly STF and fleet stuff. I don't seem to be dead weight, but I'm not the king of DPS either. The few times that someone has parsed ISE, I seem to come in around the middle of the pack. I can typically place in CCE. Also, the Doffs for aiding ET1 cool down are new due to the changes coming in the patch tomorrow. Figured I might as well have that available constantly like TT1.

Here is what I'm thinking to make use of some of the Romulan Plasma equipment I have sitting on my Mobius in spacedock:

I'm not sure which build would be better, or if I need to re-think some things, but I'm hoping you folks can give me some suggestions or validation. Obviously, I'm not running A2B. I've been leery of going there just because I'm setup with DHCs already and I figure the nerf hammer will probably come down at some point because it's so popular.

Thanks again for any recommendations for equipment, Boff powers, captain traits, or active duty Doffs! Anything you can suggest to make me more useful, I'm all ears!
