Damage Per Second. Higher is better.

It indicates how good your weapons are at doing damage.

119 damage per hit.

So with 158 DPS your disruptor fires about every 3/4 of a second and can hit for 119 damage.

The DPS number doesnt take into account Missed attacks and the Damage resists of the enemy though.

It's literally how much damage that weapon can put out every second.
IE, you have a torpedoe launcher that does 1300 base damage with a 6 second cooldown (CD), that weapon would do 217dps (1300/6, rounded up).

But put simply, higher is better.

Not always. Burst damage has its place.

Would you rather get a 500 beam damage through a down shield before it gets restored or turned away, or land several thousand with a well-timed torpedo salvo?
