I'd like to make a suggestion. I've been reading about complaints with the cruiser turn rate, and perhaps there is another solution that would be easy to implement and not unbalance the game.
I suggest to have a deployable shuttlecraft that is capable of two actions: scan anomaly, and "attach transporter beacon on loot".
This would keep the cruisers from having to maneuver that beast around just to collect simple loot from around the map to save time.
Give it to escorts and science ships, too; no need to give cruisers something special, even though escorts and science probably wouldn't use it as much.
It could be in the form of several things, not just a shuttlecraft:
Science and Escort could have a probe instead. They fire it out towards anomalies or loot, and it scans it and beams it back. Since some of their ship are kinda small, a shuttle might be the same size as them.
Cruiser could have the shuttlecraft or probe (player's choice or otherwise?)
Of course, some rules would have to be in place to protect it from being abused:
Probe/shuttle cannot be launched for loot or anomaly during combat. (Anomalies can't be scanned while shooting or being shot anyway)
Probe/shuttle can be destroyed by 1 damage from enemies so you can't send it around an asteroid to finish a mission without being shot at.
Range is limited to 10km (so we don't have special rules for ranges, just use combat ranges)
Perhaps, if you have the Del Taco thing, you can use that shuttle for your retriever, everyone else can use a probe.
Any comments/thoughts? Additions, subtractions? Good/bad?
- Del Taco Type 8 shuttles should have this funcationality added
- I think there should also be Type 6 and 7 shuttles available for energy creds at DS9.
- 20km range is better
- You should be able to loot with shuttles in combat (you can loot normally)
- Since you cannot scan in combat, your shuttle shouldn't either
