There is some insultingly basic mission content that's a variation of Exploration on the Federation side, and Klingons can fight each other and the Feds on a variety of undistinguished space and ground maps, but that's it. Players are miserable, and Klingon chat channels are among the most dispiriting places to hang out on the internet right now. This faction will need to get some serious love if it's to foster a community healthy enough to provide the happy hordes of Starfleet with proper competition.
Despite all of these complaints, those hordes of starship captains are quite happy. They may not have many different things to do, and the missions and UI may be rather buggy, but there does seem to be enough content to sustain them - at least until the endgame - and even at its worst that content is knockabout fun with more instant appeal, and more suitability for casual, short-session, low-commitment play than most MMOs.
And more spaceships too - Star Trek Online is in a field of one in terms of its theme, its only real rival being the intimidatingly complex and political EVE Online, right at the other end of the accessibility scale. It's a unique offering then, in many ways a loveable one, and for Star Trek fans if not MMO gamers it's a great social experience. It makes its licence a blessing, not a burden, but it's a blessing this rickety voyage into the unknown badly needs.
I think Eurogamer was being generous. They actually re-review most MMO's after a year or so, to see how it's holding up so who knows what the future will bring.
They gave a terrible game like ******** 8/10. theyre pretty damn biased. Infact almsot every other mmo except wow gets very low ratings. Not too surprised really since blizzard has partnered up with them a few times for competitions and such.

Helps that WoW currently is the biggest MMO out there, they must be doing something right or they wouldent keep seeing those numbers, that asside the review was dead on for the most part, though Im not sure about the Klingon chatter. I spend most of my time there and havent heard it being disheartening, if anything they seem more polite than alot of the Feds on the other side.

Hmmm WoW is not in a quality way good. WoW advance is that it uses low level human urges like collect stuff and show yourself superior to each other. Additional that it appeared at a time where tehre was a certain missing of games in that direction.
A big part that sort of started WoW is a kind of hype feeding. Not to mention they had certain fanbases they could rely on start. I mean take american Idol it gets pretty high numbers in people watching it but the thing behind it is really doubtful in a moral level. It as well just abuse deep human urges.

welcome to the world of mmo's... WoW just uses the winning formula you stated to perfection.
if you want a revolution in concept you probably got to wait for the secret "next gen" mmo they are currently working on or MAYBE a polished and extended old republic + 6-12 months after its release.
if you are a bit into math and statistics and dont want to rely on just 1 or 2 reviews you should take a look here...
