So yeah, pretty much an accurate depiction of earthquakes, although the scientists are monitoring these and wondering if these are leadups to "The Big One" that we're supposed to get.
I'm going to laugh if that quake you had now in fact was the big one but nobody knows it. I live in Reno NV. so I'm not surprised I didn't feel a tiny something over here. It all depends on the magnitude of it I guess. It seems it was a small one.
I'm still waiting for the Yellowstone supervolcano to go boom.
I'm in SOCAL and we just had 2 earthquakes in about an hour. The second one wasn't an aftershock -- it was bigger than the first and had its own distinct aftershocks. Neither were particularly large, but the pattern got me wondering.
Is "The Big One" actually gonna happen?
The biggest earthquake I remember was Northridge. I was in bed on the top bunk and it was literally bouncing up and down. I remember hitting my head on the celling and having bits of stucco in my hair when the shaking stopped. Since then earthquakes of all sizes have freaked me out.
Been in Socal all my life (first major one I experienced at age 8 was the San Fernando Valley quake in 1971. (I was 8.) The San Andreas fault 'buldge' was first detected when I was 12. I'm now 51.
My point? I seriously doubt the recent relatively small quakes we have been having since yesterday are no indication that the 'big one' will strike soon or not. The faults aren't even connected.
