# 1 Anyone Use Dhelan Refits?
04-07-2014, 09:16 PM
This is a far off project for me, but I'm hoping to invest in some type of ship for my Rommy captain... he's got the Ha'nom and a mirror... Haakona? (the cruiser type ship), but I'm hoping to pick up another refit ship, hopefully a fleet refit.

As I leveled, I liked the look of the Dhelan the most out of all the Romulan ships (I liked how it flew, and it felt really "Romulan," for whatever reason, even if the Diderex is my classic memory from TNG for Rommy ships). But I was wondering how it compared with other ships. Does it pack the punch it needs even with its lower hull health, etc?

I did like the Mogai's look as well, even if it seems REALLY wide. So I could go with that if it seems a better option than the Mogai, since both are more offensively oriented. But I do like that the Dhelan goes higher up the science powers, since I prefer to use those on all my captains over the higher Engy ones (other than in cruiser type ships).

There's always shockingly little talk on the Dhelan retro. Had it been a Fed or KDF ship, it would have been decried as OP/powercreep right away, but in the faction with T'varos, Ar'kifs, and Scimitars she just doesn't draw attention.

But, all that aside, the Dhelan retro is an amazing little warbird, the Fleet version even more so. As one of the "escort type" warbirds, the Dhelan has moderate hull, somewhat above average shield for an escort, good turn (16 base) and very good interia rating. Commander Tac and Lt. Commander Sci is my prefered damage focused Boff layout for PvE; GW with CSV and TS make short work of groups. Unlike the MVAE, the Dhelan doesn't have the 3 Tac Ens issue for all cannon escorts, it can run A2B if that's your thing.

I would suggest considering getting the 2-piece console set for it as well. The set bonus adds +5 shield power and upto 10% defense based on your flightspeed (which as a warbird, the Dhelan has +5 engine power and a high impulse mod, so you'll have plenty of speed). A quick note: the Dhelan set's defense bonus get determined when you warp in to a map or slot the second piece, so you'll want to unslot/reslot one of the consoles once you pick up some speed in a zone.

The consoles themselves are not gamebreaking in function, but I find them highly useful. The one available with the Dhelan Retro (T5) is Sabotage Probe, which works rather well as a big target softener (Tac Cubes, Donatra, any dreadnoughts, etc), dropping their weapon power and eventually disabling their weps, all while doing an electrical DoT to the main target and nearby ones. The Sabotage Probes detonation can be powerful if you buff/debuff well for it; it hits as hard as a torpedo, but ignores shields on the main target. A few notes: the probe will not detonate on it's own, you have to click the Sabotage Probe button a second time when you want to detonate it, ET will clear the probe from the target, but it'll trigger the detonation as it removes the debuff.

The other console in the Dhelan's set is the Singularity Inverter (Dhael Warbird at t2). This is the ability that makes the Dhelan so effective for me. It triggers a 30 second duration buff that hardens your shields, your hull against energy damage, and converts some of your incoming energy damage into Singularity Charge, all with a 1 minute, 40 second CD that starts when you trigger the ability. Combined with the Warp Core Eng DOff (E'makut I think) that gives a chance for EPtX to lower your Singularity power cooldown and a core with [SingC], you can use high-strength singularity power fairly often.

Ultimately, I quite enjoy my Fleet Dhelan; she can do heavy amounts of damage, is far more durable than she has any right to be, and frequently gets to utilize the Rom only singularity core powers.

Okay, good to know that you can make the Dhelan work. It seemed like it would, but there was so little talk I thought maybe I was missing something. I liked that it wasn't as freaking wide as the Mogai, and I like its BOff layout a lot more.

One thing I'm not sure on are the sets. Part 1 comes from buying the refit, but I wasn't sure from what you said where the Singularity inverter comes from (not sure what Dael Warbird at 2 means).

The Dhael is available at tier 2, just like the Dhelan. It is essentially a Dhelan refit - a slightly upgraded Dhelan with different skins (maybe different console slots?) and has the Singularity Inverter console, which is Part 1 of the set. The tier 5 Dhelan retrofit (as opposed to refit) has the other part of the console set.

To put it another way, the Dhael is to the Dhelan what the Valdore is to the Mogai. Dhelan and Mogai you get for free with your promotion, Dhael and Valdore give you some upgrades for another 1000 Zen.

As a T2 ship, the Dhael is 750 Zen.

The Valdore is a 1000 Zen console that happens to come with a ship attached.

Buy a cheap mirror dhelan and see how you like it.

It's a very well performing ship. But I wouldn't take it over the Ar'kif for roughly the same money. Fleet version comes with 5 tac consoles.

I never got the T5 version for my Romulan. For one I didn't really care for the looks. So I didn't bother.

The Fleet Dhelan is indeed a very potent ship. The only issue with it? It's a Warbird... all Warbirds are overpowered, and the overpowered Dhelan is buried in a sea of overpowered Warbirds. As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, had this ship been KDF or Fed, it would be called overpowered.

As fast as any Escort.

Good turn rate.

Console + Bonuses to make the ship even more elusive, on top of the Singularity Abilities and Battle Cloak.

5 TAC Consoles.

Ample TAC stations.

Overpowered TAC-SCI type of ship... with Battle Cloaks. TAC+SCI absolutely rapes PVE today.

The lack of ENG capability is not a concern for a fast moving, hard hitting Warbird with Sci ability, and having Singularity Abilities and Battle Cloaks. But put the Universal BOFF station as ENG? Problem goes away and you now have an Escort with Battle Cloaks, strong TAC+SCI alignments, and two ENG Lt grade BOFF stations.

Very good ship, IMO, and hard to go wrong with.

I fly the Fleet Dhelan and it is the best Rommy ship in my opinion. Run a Valdore console and either the Solanae or the 2 piece Borg set (I prefer the Solanae) for constant shield and hull heals. I run an Engineer in it and ALWAYS finish 1st in Elite CE. I park 2 km away and cannon blast away. You can run A2B and still have a GW and loads of tact skills available. It's the best bridge layout there is out there. You can out dps Scimitars as you are way more manoeuvrable and can be on your next target much faster. They are really underrated beasts.
