- I'm a lifetime subscriber. My only stake in this is to make this game more enjoyable. By bringing the game more in line with canon qualities, I think it's quite possible.
- I'm currently at Lt. - Lvl 7. Yes, this means I have a real life.
- Although the game is primarily space combat-based, I would like and anticipate this game will become much more rounded out as it develops, including more storyline/RP
- I am not a powergamer, extremist, or anything like that as proven by the two points above.
- I'm not a whiner
- I'm not a fan of Ship Classes with different levels. Please don't give me this crap about the Negh'Var being an "older" ship that isn't maintained properly by the Klingons. I'm not buying it.
- I know no matter how hard they try, they will never get to a true level of canonness (if that's a word), but I hope they strive to get as close as they can. Yes, I know this is just a game.

Here's an example of my major beef....and at the end I'll attempt to highlight the main things I see wrong with the game as a result:

In my little Centaur-Class Light Cruiser, I wind up battling 3 B'Rel Class Birds of Prey, a Raptor, possibly a K'Tinga, and a Negh'Var. I win...fly on to the next battle and do the same again. Or, I may even fight more of those same groupings without even warping to Sector Space as I orbit the same planet. All ships were either at my level or slightly above.

In an effort to stay away from the argument of this being too easy, I'll approach it from the canon side:

1. Klingons consider it an honor to kill an opponent with a more powerful ship and/or when they are outnumbered. They don't gain any honor for killing a weak opponent. Yes, we know most of that's just talk by Klingons and they'll take any advantage that they can, but there is truth to this in the shows/movies. Klingons would not find any honor in a fleet of ships taking on a single Federation CL. They might send in a BoP to finish it 1 on 1, but no Klingon with any honor would use a Negh'Var Class Battleship against a CL. Which brings me to point 2

2. A Klingon BB should make very short work of a Federation CL. One or two salvos at most should either cripple or destroy a CL. I would hope the Klingons would expect no less. He has 8 weapon slots to my 3. How is it even possible that I can destroy a Negh'Var, let alone a Negh'Var with escorts?

I would expect an Orion ship to be underpowered for it's class size (1-2 classes) due to being more of a "faction" or "syndicate" rather than a nation or empire with complete research capabilities. However, the Klingons are supposed to be "superior" at combat.

3. How come all the ships explode and no one surrenders or retreats? Granted, I would expct the Klingons to fight to the death in most instances, but there were many times in Star Trek where they retreated also. In single instance encounters, Federation ships often only crippled opposing ships. I know this is a feature to be programmed, but in many cases it would make more sense that a ship would retreat once it realized it was outmatched.

Please make AI ships stronger and have fewer of them in encounters. This 1 v 6 and the 1 always wins is getting a bit tiresome. I would anticipate I've killed in excess of 250 Klingon ships with my little CL already. At this rate, the Klingons should just give up.

Please fix this.

Falkon
I recall doing a few missions where I was suppose to kill a certain Kilingon and at the end he cloaked and left and said he would be back, and next time it would have a different outcome. That being said, yes.. they do retreat but only staticly, not dynamic encounters.

The difference in power is a bit confusing...With a Miranda you kill a Negh'var...I know the game balances everything out but it's like you would say...i killed a Sovreign with the Miranda. Such high Tier ships shouldn't be around on lower levels.

First time i played the game in OB and had the Miranda and had to go against a Negh'var i thought i'd had no chance and would bite the dust...but in the end it was just a bit more then a standart BoP.

The game took away those feelings where you would know in the movies..."that's gonna be a fight to the death..." or "we would be better of running against this ship"..."or..darn..we should thing of something smart because the odds are against us"

I agree that some missions don't make sense.
But the game is not cannon.
The federation is at war.
There's going to be a lot of shooting.

Actually, it tends to fit what happened in Star Trek once producters got CG ships instead of models... Massive fleet actions, and the heroes overcoming being outnumbered. Really I think it boils down to it's more fun to fight 3 or 4 different ships at the same time [with this engine, I'm willing to concede] than to fight one ship at a time.

and I don't think there's anything wrong with that [the squadron of low power ships vs yours], but the game takes it to the limits of credibility in other areas...1 CL vs 1 BB....isn't that ridiculous...in the slightest....no?

LoL, and Michael Jackson wanted to make this world a better place... and some gaming freaks cannot even do that in a game. When I saw the gameplay vids of STO, i knew exactly what i was in for, and thats why i am not disappointed at all. If you're so serious about this and you all think you can do it better, go knock on the doors of Cryptic HQ and show them how its done. I wanna see you buy a plane ticket and actually go there, instead of barking on the forums where no one will wanna hear you.

Um yeah the Devs do read the forums and see what we say. This has been proven in changes in the game since CB.

The changes many of us want are deeper then just a "quick fix".

We can't afford the time or money to travel to Cryptic and since you didn't notice the word "FEEDBACK" @ the root of this this forum section then that is why you fail to realize that we post our thoughts = FEEDBACK.

We've just barely gotten out of recession, even if you were being serious. Any company that would force us to do that just for some answers doesn't deserve our money in the first place. Cryptic has been listening to us in areas their already working on. In other areas I'm guessing they've put on the backburner. Though unfortunately it may cost them people who are loyal to series which could potentially be the bulk of people who want to come to the MMO.

Now, on to the OP, and I agree almost completely. One of the best ideas would to ramp up the numbers of the ships and lower the tier to frigates with BoPs being the game bosses in the lower levels. I'd also like to see ship subsystems being taken down during the fight and make bringing them back up during it much more difficult. Further more, change destroy ships to crippled ships and make it so we can deliver a Coup de Grace to it to destroy it if we so desire. Personally I'm sick and tired of take damaging from exploding ships.

The drops are fine they could say surrender to us and offer a piece of their ship to ensure we won't wipe from existence. Destroying a ship should be up to the captain or its own captain, be fun if they set their ship to auto-self destruct. Also this could be a good starting point for taking over a ship and hauling it back to space dock for the chop shop or to use as your own. Federation using commandeered ships in PVP would a fun twist in events.

"Crap they have a BoP in their pack...! Fall back!"

More to the point appoint a BO to be acting captain of said ship, get it to working order and start building yourself a fleet.

Ya, I wish I felt a little less like Rambo in a ship.
