I would love to see a slightly expanded autofire for space combat as well. Mainly I'd like to be able to set as many weapons as I'd want to auto. Personally I'd set my 2 beams and turret to autmatic while handling the torpedoes myself.
i just got my Heavy Escort last night and the first thing i did was to enable all 5 weapons to auto-fire.
I've made a macro that will rightclick all the forward firing weapons really fast, takes a few tries though. The 2 rear firing weapons were not an issue, i just rightclicked fast enough and all weapons are now on autofire.
It certainly is possible to have everything on autofire, takes a bit of practice though but everything is enabled now
I used to be for full autofire, but I recently moved to about 50/50. When I got the heavy cruiser for my engineer, I noticed that my weapons power dropped pretty fast when I fired all 4 phaser arrays at the same time. I actually made one of my side mouse buttons my phaser button and it actually feels and works alot better than the spacebar.
That maybe true, but you don't have to select all weapons for autofire in those cases. It's choice. Currently it's limited to only choosing one forward and one aft facing weapon for autofire. I would rather lose the ability to autofire torpedoes and mines for the ability to autofire as many phasers as I wanted.
autofire makes the game even easier. in one thread everybody is whining about it to be too easy, in the other thread you want autofire, wtf?
maybe they should also implement auto-follow and auto-warp-out-at-10%-hull-integrity.
Put it this way... if its in the game, people that want and feel they need (like myself, my thumb is getting sore and tired, and I don't want to break my space bar) can select to enable it, and the rest that don't want, think it makes the game to easy, don't use it...
However, denying someone to use it because you feel it makes the game to easy... well thats like saying, "I'm sorry, sir/ma'am. You can't park in the handicap spot with the handicap sticker/tag because it makes it to easy for you"
TC: Over the course of the development, did the space combat tend to pull one way or the other towards being more actiony, or more staid and strategic?
CZ: We probably wanted it staid and strategic. A little bit more positional. A little bit more like the shows. But when you say that out loud, people are like, "Well, that just sounds boring". So you want to make sure it's very engaging, so that while it's strategic and positional, you are constantly making decisions.
That's why they wont' add auto fire. It makes combat less "ENGAGING".
If you're worried about power, etc, then don't autofire all your weapons. But for those of us who know how to manage our power, please let us autofire all of our beam weapons. You never heard Kirk, Picard, et al. saying "Fire...Fire...Fire...Fire..."
