So at LT cmndr 9 I started on some of the Alpha Centari mission lines that take you into Romulan territory. No doubt, anyone doing this zone will at some point run into a Romulan Derridex Battleship which has the ability to shut you down for 8 or so seconds during which you are completely helpless (engines stop, weapons offline, no abilities work, shields are still up but your can't transfer strength between shield arcs). Usually, such battleship will also launch a high yield plasma torp in conjunction with their hold move which can make things difficult.

My usual way of dealing with this is to counter with jam sensors the moment I see the purple "hold probe" on its way. That way, even if I do end up getting hit by the plasma, I don't also have the battleship pummeling me the whole time while I'm sitting helpless.

Anyway, my method works well enough to get by but I'm curious what other people are doing out there. I'm also interested to know if science team gets rid of such holds and whether you can cast it on yourself while held. What's your way of handling a Romulan Battleship?

The devs have already stated that they will make sure science team can cure you of viral matrix.
So just bear with it.

Just make sure you hit the Science Team as soon as you see the purple probe. So long as it's active before it hits, the hold will get cleaned up right away.

There's a Tactical Maneuver ability called "Attack Pattern Omega" that also makes you temporary immune to holds and can even be used while held according to the description. Has anyone tried that against this?

During one on one with a battleship, we've managed to Viral each other out once or twice simultaniously. My science shields they haven't managed to get past yet during the shutdown but escort took a pretty nasty pummeling. In any case, Romulans, Remans and Hirogen finally provide bit more a challenge than the clumsy Klingons. I like it a lot that they use a wide range of abilities as well.

Good to know. I should reevaluate my science officer's abilities.... Might be time to cash in tractor beam for something a little more multi-purpose.
