Seeing that the Comissioned BO trading seems to taken a backseat again (or might have been cancelled entirely), looking at the recent tribble patch notes, this threat should get more attention once again.
Yeah, I agree. It's not about ignoring the fact that mixed captain career and ship type is going to cause problems. It's about whether that should be a factor at all. I don't see why a tactical officer shouldn't be able to train his crew in Rank III abilities, if he maxes out some Engineer skills. Well, you can certainly train your tactical bridge officers in whatever tactical Rank IIIs you unlock... but there's no point unless you're flying an Escort. Similarly I don't see why Tactical captains flying Cruisers should be confer a drawback as opposed to choosing an Escort.
This is one of the things I like the least in the game. The cookie cutter feel of saying a science officer should only command science vessels, tactical officers go escorts, and only engineers should command cruisers. I can see maybe having an advantage to a specialty for certain officer types. Maybe a small buff to an officer’s engineering skills when an engineer commands a cruiser. But basically taking away skills from a tactical officer because he commands a science ship seems very boring and restrictive. It's not just saying you get a small advantage when you command a ship of your specialty, it's saying you will not be allowed to play your officer class to the fullest unless you command the approved class of ship.
The current BO system and BO ship stations need to be reviewed imo.
I totally agree, I have a Science Admiral and i prefer flying in an Escort. I've gone through the exchange and bought bridge officers so I can get those III skills. They should allow a science captain/escort or a tactical/cruiser etc... Why not?
Maybe it would add a bit more ship diversity to the game rather than just adding more ships. Not saying we don't need more ships.. I'm waiting for my Nebula class hehe.
