You know, I have seen quite a number of threads written that really trash the game, and while I think some are just done out of a pure desire to ornery, I do agree some have their merits.

That said, I can also respect how this game might not be for everybody, but personally I think it's pretty darn good. I agree there is certainly room for improvement and stuff to be added, but I honestly think that's a good thing. I want to look forward to new stuff, and be proactive in helping a game I enjoy evolve into something better.

Now to why I think this is a good game....

For those who say the game is simple pew/pew...I don't think you gave the game much of a chance. There is a huge amount of customization between your skills, bridge officer powers, ship equipment and so forth that gives this game (to me) so many choices as to how I want to play it can be quite mind boggling. Just taking the time to plan out my spec and skills and equipment for now and in the future is more detailed and in depth than any other game I have played.

As for the missions, think of the variety we already have available to us now...

- You have your main storyline missions, which are very well written and involve many plots and characters from past series and movies.
- You have exploration missions you can do for badges to obtain gear upgrades, all of which have a decent amount of variety (I do agree this should be expanded on)
- You have Patrol missions in each sector which you can do when you want to group up with some friends and just enjoy some fun blasting of NPC's
- You have some Fleet Action areas (this could use some real improvement) that include some very epic battles with a large group of people. I know my first time doing Starbase 24 was an exciting experience.

The missions for the most part include a variety of tasks....ground and space....combat (mostly) and some exploration. While I agree a bit more exploration would be nice, who really hasn't wanted to blast the crap out of people with their phasers?

I think back to other MMO's I have played and they all do revolve around the same things. Go here and kill this....loot that....bring it back to me....

At least with STO I can go to a system and complete what I want to do there and move on to the next mission without having to run all over the place. I actually like this. I can log in, do some missions and feel I accomplished something.

In closing, I think STO has a bright future ahead of it. While I won't argue there is alot that can be added to make the game great, its just that stuff to look forward to that is what will make this a long term enjoyable experience for me.

The game is excellent. Nice one Cryptic. How the hell you did it with less than two years development i have NO IDEA. But its grand.

OP, people only generally complain when they cant log on because the servers are down. Thats a good sign in a way. But its a horribly bad thing as well.

If Cryptic can adequately support their new incredibly popular mmorpg? Its win. Pure win.

EDIT: Oh yea, and you're a fanboi. Haha. You asked for it. :p

Wow, a positive thread for a change!

The lack of exploration missions has been such a popular complaint since closed beta that I really would think we will see some of them added to the game very soon.

THE single best feature of STO to me is the Open Grouping mechanism. So we finally can just play the game in GROUPS without first having to spam "LFG" into chat for half an hour. That's the thing I always hated about my former MMOs.

I was going to read it but caught a whiff of intelligence. Such a thing is not permitted and is unacceptable.

Your point about bridge officers is true, and skils, many combinations of effects and skills.

The skills do have a complex thinking equation to them, and there are many choices a player makes both in combat and when making characters.

Very good point, and some good thinking stuff on that.

Pressing the 'F' key and blasting the crap out of stuff is hardly a variety of tasks.

As the newest film showed us, REAL Star Trek fans hate anyone actually enjoying Star Trek. Clearly you have a lot of work to do before you can join the ranks of the real fanboys.

Niether is listing your item for sale on Eve's marketplace or running through your rotation in WoW. Hell if we boil everything down to how the game is actually played there hasn't been an original game since Pong, they all require you to manipulate a control system while following an arbitrary set of rules.

Try reading your missions, even the explores, they're more fun that way.

No, no. There's nothing to run through. The serious gamers make macros to do everything with only the "f" key.
