im about to hit commander and looking at the new skills, im abit confused. in reguard to puting points into a paticular ship type. why would anyone put points into say heavy escort or heavy cruser skill, if you will never fly these ships agin once you hit lv 30? why would cryptic put skills that alow you to sink points into them but are usless at higher lvs? i dont understand am i missing a buff that the skill gives to later ships?

also this is bit confusing as well, but not as much. you get to pick certen beam/projectil wepons i.e. disrupter/phazer/photon ect... my question is this. at max lv will people still be using quantom/photan/disruper/phasers? or will we all be using tricobolt/poloran ect wepons.

I just dont want to put points into things i wont use at endgame. any thoughts?

To me I'd like to think if you stuck to your line of ships from cruisers, heavy cruisers ect you should have better stats as you go into higher tier ships of the same class.

You'd think don't you...but you don't, the exception is the heavy escort as it buffs a skill escort pilots will be using at max level, attack pattern alpha, I suppose the buff you get by spending those points isn't huge but for dps every % counts amirite? ;p

For now you want to avoid spending points in the ship skills until you hit Admiral and pick which ship you will fly at endgame. It's a complete waste of your skillpoints unless for some reason you plan on flying your tier 4 ship and not flying a tier 5. I've heard folks talk about that but not sure I understand it.

Lastly, I'm not sure about what weapon types folks are using past the Commander level as I'm not to Captain yet. I put points in photon weapons and phaser weapons in the hopes that there are higher tier weapons of that type. Unfortunately I haven't encountered any tachyon, plasma, or other type weapons at the lower tiers so that I could decide which one I wanted at end game. Some of them are only available after you spent points in the other weapon types which is actually **** poor on Cryptic's part. If I find out that I have limited access to the weapon types I spent points on at end game I'm going to be upset.

reguarless of the buff the heavy escort gives to that one skill, i doubt anyone will be flying a heavy escort at endgame when they could be flying a fleet escort that has more wepons/BO/shields/hulll and w/e else im missing

personaly i fly sci ships so i have no idea of the buffs heavyescorts give, which is why i asked if there is some buff that i might have missed

thank you for this post, gess ill put points into other things. frustrating that there are options to pick, that become worlthelss at endgame... poor designing.

It's a bit painful but if you open up your skill menu (P button) while flying around, select each of your current skills at the bottom of it's full description most of them show your skill lines that buff the ability, those are the skill lines you should be spending skill points on if you plan to use the skill long term.

that works on skills you have, meaning you have to spend points/currancy to get the skill to first beabel to look at it.

My larger point is there seem to be skill that are pointless, as in heavy escort/cruzer/reserch ship skills, these are t3 ships and i find it hard to beleve anyone will be flying those in endgame.

also shield transfer skills, regen targets shields reduces damage done to shields. Sci team regens 4x the shield has same damage reduction and removes sci debuffs, and can be used on self.

why should i use shield transfer in my BO sci ships. i have both skills, but i am regeting getting shield xfer 1 and 2 to lv9 as it seems sci team is much more usfull

i cant beleve that cryptic would put powers/skills in the game that have compleetly no use. i must be missing somthing.

I spend 1 point in the 'tier specific' ship box. That gives the biggest bonus (+10 I think). I then use my points in other places like the weapons I like to use, various system stuff like shields, weapons etc.

I do have some points spend in ground abilities as well, especially the lower rank ones.

Is it not the higher tier clasees of ships sub clasess of preview ones? I mean, is it not Exploration cruiser a sub class of an heavy cruiser?
