How cool would it have been to have factions to work with?

Intelligence Agencies
Medical Universities
Criminal Organizations
Engineering Councils
Political Parties

With the storyline of a major wars going on, it seems like these kind of side missions would be extremely relevant to the Star Trek universe. Great potential for side missions, unique loot and unique gameplay moments.
