There suposed to be the "healer class"

Anything you say I will answer with...

"There is no death penalty" ....nothing...at all you are not needed, get an escort be useful, be a engineer drop an extra turret.

Infact the game promotes dieing ....look at Ramming speed or self destruct lol.

Science in STO = fail.

Its true
(love the game though) ....mostly
huh?

I must say I have a Science/class both Space/Ground Combat and I'm having a ball, I help and heal newbies when they need to be healed as we do the mission, the science vessel rocks, I'm not seeing anything wrong with it...I can handle myself pretty good with it, whats the problem?

I don't see them as healer class... engies are actually more efficient in direct healing anyway.

Science has some great tanking and CC though. On my science ship toon I run with an engi captain with:

Sci
Viral Matrix I
Scramble Sensors I
Jam Sensors I
Polarize Hull I (swap out jam for tractor and polarize with science team for pvp)

Eng
Reverse Shield Polarity I
Emergency Power to Shields

Tactical:
High Yield I and II

Personal Skills:
Rotate shield frequency
etc... rest every captain gets and engies get.

With the sciene ship's high shield modifiers along with some great shields to give it, with this type of setup you can take direct focused fire in a 5 on 5 and maintain, at least until you get locked down or you've survived so long that most of your skills are on cooldown. With the CC though shouldn't be much of a problem keeping at least 2 different targets from shooting you at any given time.

I love it when people make widespread judgments about a class they've never tried. Always makes me happy.

To be fair though, it did start some interesting discussions.
