# 1 Torpedo: High Yield III
02-12-2010, 02:50 PM
According to the skills, you get access to High Yield III once you've taken your Lt. Commander Torpedo skill to 9. As an Engineer class, I thought it would be nice to have a little bit more bang in my torpedos, so I trained it to 9. Now I can't find the ability to train this anywhere .. and reading other posts in this section .. I'm reading that it may not even be possible to ever learn because I'm an Engineer class. I understand that in a cruiser, I may not have the console for it .. but I'd planned on also getting a high tier escort ship for when I want to run around and use that .. so I'd have access to the console. Am I now just screwed out of that skill entirely?

If that's the case, they REALLY need to make some sort of addendum on the skill chart that says something like (Only useable by Tactical Officers) or something so that Engineers and Science classes, don't waste the points to push it to 9 .. especially since there's no respec system in place.

/facepalm

next time just bump another one of those threads instead of making your own please, it causes clutter on the forums. And blue/purple bridge officers can carry mk 3 versions of skills, find one of those and use them to train an officer.

So here we go again, yet an other attempt to inform people how the game currently works:

Yes you can get level III skills from rare BOs, quite a couple different ones actually.
However, with the one single exception of Attack Pattern Omega III, you can not get any level III skills at all that can be unlocked by players through the player skill tree.

The rank III skills that are found on rare BOs are those that are neither available through the power store on the starbase nor through unlocking by investing skill points. Again, Attack Pattern Omega III is a lonely exception and I actually suggest taking advantage of this while possible. Chances are the availability of this skill through rare BOs will be removed at some point.
Sorry for just copy pasting this from an other topic but I don't want the OP to get misinformed.

Edit: to clarify: the above quote only refers to rare reward BOs and the (in-)ability to get certain skills from them.
Unlocking tier III BO skills through the player skill tree does work, but players can only unlock skills through this way that match their own character's career/profession (tactical, engineering, science).

I don't get it. Are you saying that unlocking a tier III skill by putting 9 levels into does nothing, and you can not train you BO's in it like it says you can?

Yes and no.
When training all 9 levels of a skill that says it unlocks the ability for you train your officer a certain skill you do get that ability, but only if your character's career matches the skill.
For example: only players that chose to be a tactical officer can ever unlock High Yield Torp. III. Only engineering players can unlock Emergency Power to Engines III and only science officer players get science team III.

I added a clarification to my quote above to prevent further missunderstandings.

Edit: for further discussion of this topic I strongly urge everyone to use one of the existing topics.
The currently most extensive- and furthest progressed one is the following, found in this very same forum:

I'll go and read that thread, thank you for the link. I looked through the list of threads on the first page when I posted and didn't see anything about it .. so I created a new thread. I suppose I should have looked through several pages before I went and posted. Again, thank you for the link.
