The Last Ship, Falling Skies, Defiance, Game of Thrones, Homeland, Hannibal, Mad Men, on and on and on and on.

I mean, I love action and gruesome death as much as the next guy, but one can only take so many people getting shot before they feel like watching something else. Is there anything worth watching or should I just reinstall minecraft?

Stargate Universe was kinda the same way. All drama and no humor (which made SG-1 and Atlantis so successful). Battlestar Galactica was also heavy on the drama.

At the moment... there really isn't anything worth watching, at least in my opinion, except for the odd episode of Iron Chef America and River Monsters...

I just mentioned to my family today about how popular the Food Network would be if Taste and Smell could be transmitted through Television. After all, our brain experiences taste and smell through electrical impulses so it is theoretically possible for a meal from Iron Chef to be transmitted to our minds.

As far as the discussion is concerned, TV writers think that sorrow makes for interesting television while it is the full range of human experience that makes for great television.

Cosmos with NDT. There's your positive and uplifting prime time TV show.

Personally, I'm a fan of Hannibal. I empathize with a really smart sociopath who thinks of killing rude and stupid people quite often, and I can't tear my eyes away from it.

Maybe they know something we don't. To be honest I don't even know if my TV even works anymore, having a good computer and internet with good bandwidth, television is kind of a step backward. Besides the stuff they put on TV anymore, ugh, I think it's deliberately designed to kill brain cells.

Because, we are basically old Rome. Fads, lust, vanity, greed, corruption, etc! The old Colosseum fans wanted blood, so our movies give that to todays people chanting for it, theater wanted lust and drama, tv/internet/movies give us that in their reality shows.

But in the process of giving the viewer their dose of darkness, they show us how miserable wretched our society has become from embracing our primal and dark natures...this generation repeatedly mocks kind and pure hearted people, and treat them like they are mental.

Watch comedys, not cursing people talking about being dirty for a cheap laugh, that will only pull you back into what you would be trying to escape. I mean old fashioned humor, burns and allen, red skelton, abbot and costello...the marx brothers. The people most put down for being old school and dull, also lived in a generation with less crime and suicide statistics because they knew not to touch certain things, or allow their children exposure to it ether!

Is kind of what I'm looking at for Summer TV...I don't find it depressing. I usually find most of the other "stuff" that's on TV to be depressing.

... and i thought i was the only one feeling that way.

Sometimes it's just too much gore and morbidity on TV IMO.
The best thing to do is to watch something light hearted or even totally giggly, like catstarsto said.

I for myself prefer to watch a good Louis DeFunes movie or a good old Bud Spencer & Terence Hill flick (german sub is just ) or a Stan Laurel&Oliver Hardy movie if i feel a bit depressed.

Maybe a good start would be to recall what kind of humor you liked when you where young and maybe there are some treasures you didn't know by now. Don't let others tell you this or that would be childish or stupid. Watch what you like, if it's old comedies or anime or whatever comes to your mind.

..just my 2 cents.

I see them as shows offering hope, morals, conviction - that amidst all the crap going on, folks do the right thing - even if things get gray, they're still trying to do the right thing. So much of the rest of what is on TV leaves me wondering if the species should survive...meh. I mean, seriously, have you ever seen a commercial for Party Down South?

If you've got Netflix, you can also ignore most of what's on TV and try to hit up various things more to your liking or whatever you're in the mood for as well.
