For those who haven't tried them, did you know that the piercing rifle and repeating pistol are some of the highest DPS ground weapons in the game?

I don't want to lose these unique weapon types, or the "hold longer, get better" mechanics inherent in a couple of them.

Perhaps this could leads to unique disruptors for KDF characters too.

oh that's right, if those stores go away, so do the only way you can get these weapons

You know what I'd love to see? Versions of those ammo using Romulan weapons for every ground weapon damage type in the game (aside from the odd exception or two).

I don't know if Cryptic thinks these weapons were a failure, but I absolutely LOVED them, and greatly regret not making a "Thank you Cryptic for the new weapons!" thread right after Legacy of Romulus released. I want more of these things. I can't get enough!

I'll even make a separate thread about this if I have to. I want these things to not only stay, but have versions added for other damage types, such as phaser and disruptor.

I'd love to see other unique ones as well. But baby steps.

The response I got in the crafting thread made me believe that Cryptic might consider them to have been failures, or at least not popular enough to care about getting rid of. So I'm not asking for anything that would take much effort or time at this point.

However, since the ONLY way to buy them is the almost universally shunned (for ground weapons) method of buy at the dilithium store, they haven't gotten a fair shake IMHO.

My request: PUT THEM IN THE GENERAL LOOT TABLES AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. That's it. That's all I'm asking. Get them out in the "wild" and see how many people end up using them. I think it'll be quite a few, or at least quite a few Romulans (hello, "Plasma Weapon Specialist" trait).

THEN I think they will prove themselves enough to warrant other unique types. But at worst, they remain in the game and those of us who love them can continue getting them.

I'm still not giving up on this.

Please, if there are any Romulans who haven't tried these weapons, I have a challenge for you. Yes, it will cost dilithium, but I'm asking for a good cause.

Try out the unique Romulan plasma ground weapons that are still available on Holodeck at the dilithium vendor and see what you think.

If you're not level 50 yet, try out the white ones on the regular ground vendor.

Try them and see what you think about the unique mechanics (hold to continue firing) on some of them, and see if you don't think they're worth keeping in the game.

See if you agree with me that not only is it refreshing to see different types of weapon type and firing mode combinations in the game (other than just compression pistol, split beam rifle, pulsewave assault, etc.), but the models for these weapons look a bit different as well. I would say uniquely Romulan, but that's a matter of personal taste.

Please, try them out and post your opinions here.

I don't want something different to just die out because of inadequate publicity and apathy.

Help me save these! Since the dilithium store acquisition of these is GOING AWAY in 9.5, let's get Cryptic to add them into loot tables, onto another vendor, or anywhere else so that they can remain an active part of the game.

We've already lost star clusters, let's not lose these too!

Hell, grab a IX white one and run Undine Infiltration with it. That mission is so easy that, if you're specced for ground, you shouldn't have any problem completing it with one. Then imagine what an XI very rare can do.

I took the piercing beam rifle to Defera last night and decimated some Borg with it. That secondary fire mode is more devastating than a pulsewave against them.

I'd prioritize the piercing beam rifle above all else. It's what you think when you hear "full auto" rifle, as opposed to the real full auto rifles. The repeater pistol's not bad, but the animations are kind of bugged, which makes it less desirable and it's a one target weapon. The split beam pistol's not really any different than a split beam rifle (probably fires a bit quicker?), but it seems to be the standard issue Republic weapon (your security team uses it) so it's nice for RP purposes.

As for the others, the wide beam rifle can hit 5 targets, unlike a split beam, but the secondary has limited range and the animation's a big bugged -- I just prefer split beam Romulan plasma to this overall. The one assault works like a compression pistol but you can vary how strong it gets by holding the secondary fire key, rather than it being a set charge time/damage. I forget what the other assault acts like, but I remember I wasn't too impressed by it.

All I really want to see is for these to stay in the dilithium store as special weapons. I get the impression the devs don't want them more accessible. I always wondered why the Romulan story missions rewarded normal plasma weapons instead of these uniquely-Romulan ones...

Excellent feedback. Thank you! This is exactly what I'm talking about.

All I really want at minimum is for them to remain available somehow as well.

But if they're only in the dilithium store, I think they'll continue to be ignored.

Really, they should be distributed alongside "normal" plasma weapons or instead of them.

Mission rewards, loot drops, crafting...whatever I can get, I'll take.

Let's hear from some more people!

I still say just move them to Romulan Rep store, to be some ground equipment for that rep. You can even keep their costs and add rep marks.

Not a bad idea. You could also add versions of them to the Omega Rep projects, with the Pistols compatible with the Omega set, the Assaults compatible with the Honor Guard/Adapted MACO set, and the Rifles compatible with the MACO/Adapted Honor Guard set. That would save the unique weapon types, and give Romulan players access to plasma weapons that work with Ground sets. Kills two birds with one feathered monkey.

Sure it's out of context, and I don't work for Cryptic... but thanks!

I give my heartfelt support to this (the OP's) idea.
