We will be bringing down the Tribble server for maintenance to apply a new update: ST.42.20140622a.3

General:
  • Research and Development:
    • School Specialist Duty Officers are now available through various means in-game.
      • These officers are required in order to craft some of the highest-skill items in each R&D School.
      • Each School Specialist will have one R&D School, in addition to their standard Specialization.
        • They also have a full complement of traits and active roster abilities, allowing them to remain functional as Duty Officers beyond just the R&D system.
      • These officers have been added to all C-Store Duty Officer Cadre Packs.
        • Also applies to existing ones already purchased.
        • They can also be obtained rarely as a reward for running the "Request R&D Assistance" Duty Officer Assignment, newly available at your Academy or Starbase Recruiter.
          • This assignment rewards Materials and Components in addition to a small chance at School Specialists and Catalysts.
    • Numerous fixes and updates to High End Gear Crafting rewards.
      • This is still a work in progress.
    • Catalysts are now properly consumed when used to boost the effectiveness of a project.
    • Resolved an issue where Single Cannons were being listed under the Cannon Console project.
      • They now have their own section within the Cannons school.
    • Conversion of existing anomalies into new crafting materials can now be performed in bulk, up to 100 items at a time.
    • Crafting projects in progress now correctly appear in the In Progress category instead of Completed.
    • Catalysts in a stack can now be slotted in two different Catalyst slots.
    • Corrected an issue where trying to create a Tachyon Deflector would create a Neutrino Deflector instead.
    • Corrected an issue where trying to create a Neutrino Deflector would create a Tachyon Deflector instead.
    • Removed an extraneous copy of the Aegis Shield schematic from the Shields school.
      • There is now only one schematic to make the Aegis Shield.
    • Crafting components now go into the crafting bag when looted from interacts.
    • Resolved an issue where some special crafted items said they were Mark 6, despite having Mark 12 stats.
    • Changed the icon for the TR-116B rifle to not display as Mark 1.
    • Corrected an issue where Engineering schematics required an invalid item.
    • Resolved an issue which caused UI to overlap when quickly moving from the Duty Officer window to the Research and Development window.
    • XP gained and duration now reflects the correct times based on what Mark is chosen for the project.

Known Issues:
  • The new Crafting system is not in its final state.
    • UI for the Crafting system is still a work in progress.
    • Having a large surplus of Crafting skill does not remove Common as a possible outcome.
    • Opening the Duty Officer systems occasionally causes a crash.
    • Duty Officer Rewards are not displaying for Completed or assignments in the Log.
    • Not all required components are visible in the UI for each project.
    • Reaching level 5 with 3 schools does not unlock the 4th crafting slot.
    • Personal shields have no variables, only Mark II generic can be built.
  • Odyssey and Bortisqu’ Fleet uniform changes are not in their final states.
    • New Fleet uniforms are not available yet.
    • Starfleet Tactical Bridge Officers do not have the Odyssey uniform available.
  • New kit modules do not have their own search category in the Exchange.
  • Kits in your inventory cannot be equipped by double-clicking on them.
    • You can drag and drop slot them.

So none of the major issues players have with the system have been addressed yet. I do hopes some of them will be as this looks just like a list of bug fixes, which is good, but there are some major issues with the system yet.

I was hoping the school specific doffs would be purchasable for dilithoum or something, but I suppose if you can get them off an assignment crit it isn't horrible. At least we don't HAVE to spend Zen.

So bugs. Still can't complete an assignment by hitting collect rewards. Have to open the View details, and you still see the assignment twice.

Aegis needs a warp core and 4 set bonus

Think of them as a new trait that will appear on some duty officers. Doffs with this quality will be required to craft high end stuff apparently.

TLDR: It's the monetization factor as to get the best qualities of them within a reasonable time period you will want to buy the 'crafting' packs.

*edit addon
These are yet another possible deal breaker for me with crafting. Ever notice getting those purple doffs from the packs with desireable abilities tend to be the most expensive on the exchange?

If these new, required, doffs are as difficult to acquire as the doffs from current doff packs it would be disappointing. On the other hand if they were the same difficulty to acquire as say standard doffs than it won't be a big deal. Time will tell.
