Agree with the others. Good post. Very informative.
As someone who doesn't PvP, I decided to try it out since virtually all the vendors at K7 only take PvP currency (awards and such). Well, it was a slaughter. The Klingons had 8+ to 1 odds in numbers as Feds would die and zerg-spawn a steady trickle into the fight. After three quick deaths to Klingons who were +4 to me, I left the arena and dropped the mission. I won't be PvPing again without a dedicated team and a toon optimized for it. As your post clearly illustrates, if you're not prepared you don't stand a chance.
You might want to PM a dev to get this stickied. It deserves it.
Every Fed should read this. Then read it again, then a third time to make sure it sticks. PVP on the fed side is painful right now, you wait ten minutes or more just to get blown out of the sky. More than half the time i can't even corral us all into a single group. it's maddening.
Agreed. I looked. Where are the power level preset keybinds?
I am just not seeing ?
Updated to include the console commands for binding power level presets.
Thanks for the feedback!
P.S. I have PMed Phoxe but no response, so I shall PM Jackalope with a request to sticky this thread. I humbly request that if you all think it deserves a sticky, please do ask a Moderator or DEV to sticky it.
RCS console are worthless on cruisers as they are only a percentage buff to the base turn speed.
Cruisers have a low base turn therefore 20% extra is not a whole lot and generally not worth it.
Playing offensively as federation is impossible.
Baiting the enemy is a terrible idea. One subnucleonic beam and the bait ship is toast. Without evasive or any tanking abilities available 100 engines isn't enough to survive.
That leaves the only 'tactic' being the fed ball. Which is basically sitting around waiting to get humped.
Other than that mostly right.
There are fewer Sci officers klingon side than fed side....so you have little to worry about on that score...
I'd hazard a guess that its 50% Tac 30% Eng 20% Sci at best...and more likely to be 10% sci....or even 5% sci ..I think I have seen all of 4 since release... :p
My first encounters in PvP weren't so bad , i always did a lot of damage and kills but usually my (random) team most times was loosing , because frankly klingon players are in love with vorcha ships.
I always end up having 2 escorts in my team , some times 2 science vessels but cruisers are more rare , dont know why.
The last days i ended up fighting 5 klingons with 5 vorcha class ships , when in my team we had 2 escorts and most times only 2 cruisers (including mine).
Cloak gives a great first strike advantage , if you dont plan on counter it before the battle begins. The moment they decloak , in 5-8 seconds the weaker target on my time is gone , and from that time after we can ONLY do damage , not win.
I have never seen a klingon team without always assisting their ally that gets the enemy focus fire , and thats their greatest advantage , they already have learned to play as a team.
I dont believe that RCS Accelarators are useless , someone said in this forum , a mark 8 25% RCS console gives the galaxy 1.25 points in its original 5 turn rate value , some people haven't realized how important this is.
I must be a rare breed, but I have done nothing but PVP as a fed. I have no problem winning using similar strategies with a PUG. The biggest issue I have seen is PVE'ers unwilling to change their build for PVP. I have changed my build so many times it's unreal. If your going to PVP then get support abilities! Cruisers are amazing in PVP, awesome support with crazy damage using the right build. You can easily do over 150k damage and heal for over 100k in tier 3.
I would add something in your post about how to counter focus fire. Attack Pattern Delta is insanely powerful against focus fire when coupled with extend shields, eng team, and hazard emitters. AP Delta seems to reduce the entire klingon fleet's resistances below 0% when they continue to focus fire. A standard phaser beam array at tier 3 does around 100 dmg to shield and 1200 dmg to hull each hit to a klingon ship when they are unloading on an ally that has AP delta on. I don't even know what other weapons do, but I've seen klingon ships die in 2 seconds simply because they are firing on someone who has my AP delta buff on them. I've also seen that this debuff can counter Reverse sheild polarity. They simple don;t have time to put it up and when they do use it bleedthrough will kill them anyway.
Defensive: Use your environment. Those wrecks, asteroids, and metreon patches aren't just there for looks. The wrecks and asteroids can be quite useful for breaking line of sight, or putting something solid behind you so you only have to worry about what's in front of you.
