The d'deridex battleship and mogai escort (and eventually the apex battleship) are the most difficult ships in the game due entirely to poor design (for an escort anyway).

This remains true at admiral level as well. All the level 45 enemy ships still die as easy as prettymuch anything else level appropriate, but going back into rom space and fighting romulan ships like 20 levels below you, they are still far greater threats and more dangerous. Just unique combination of ai and abilities, doesn't scale properly at all. Difficulty jump from klingons to romulans is big. Then things get EASIER in cardassian/dominion space, even borg.
