If there was another thread on this elsewhere, I missed it.. I tried searching to no avail...

For the fleet action PVP that has been mentioned as to be coming our way, there should be a couple instances where the number of ships in combat can be restricted to certain tiers/weight amounts.

This would allow fleets to make some decisions to who is piloting what and allow for some more exciting combat and tactics. This also players to get use out of their lower ship tiers and even perhaps to specialize in smaller craft types which I believe many skip over in their skill tree.

For example, for a contested system control scenario you would limit it like:

25 Players Max (whatever is appropriate)

Ship Class Breakdown
=====================
5 Rear Admirals
5 Captains
5 Cmdr
10 - Ensign through Lt Cmdr

I think this will liven things up quite a bit and make for some interesting and compelling PVP battles.

Feel free to expand upon this further in comments folks...

I'd like to see some use for the older ships, but who would volunteer to use a horribly low vessel? For sure the map has to be objective based, so people just dont instagib the lowbie ships

also allow us to place the same number and type of BO slot for your current rank into any lower tier ship.

So if I want to have my T3 BoP BO slots in a T2 BoP, so be it.

Nice idea but not practical. Low tier ships just suck so much compared to higher tier ships and equipment that no low tiers would both playing.

not true...if its purposeful PvP for a war campaign...then yeah, many of us would. When its about faction advancment, then people realize even the smallest ship can play its part in contributing for the faction win.

I suppose that is the best balance of ship ranks. I thought maybe 1 Admiral for every 2 Captains for every 2 Commanders/Lt Commanders, but that doesn't really work out. Something definitely should be done to make sure lower tier ships still have a place. Trek Fleets always have all kinds of ships involved. It just wouldn't feel right seeing only the biggest, most advanced ships flying around. And, it would indeed give purpose to those currently worthless mid-tier ship skills.

Neat idea , but wouldnt having all those ensign , lt , lt cmdr players just be cannon fodder ? 1 admiral / brig general would annihilate all 10 ensigns by them self if they found them alone.

a game called navy field had somthing similar for certin type of turnements they ran
in that you could only bring so many ships of a certin class into the guild on guild battle while the total number of ships was not as any where near limited so you ended up having a few hi end ships and lots and lots of smaller ships most of which where driven by higher tier people who wanted to play in the tourny and while the smaller ships where even more outclassed in that game than this one they still can contribute ie 5 t2 escorts with mark x gear are gunna kill a negvar quickly but 5 t2 escorts with mark 4 gear might not be able to so the concept is workable but first they need to have some for of end game which this might be a part of as it stands cryptics usla high standers of comunication info us how there going to keep up playing after the 30 days are up
