Arkaan
It probably is a fps issue. The more detail on an object generally equals to lag.

Just from a former developer/designer/3D artist. Can be a pain putting painstaking detail on an object that causes game performance to drop and require people to get expensive cards to run (non consule games).

I wouldnt mind more choices in hull art. Love the Leo design on the feds. With the right hull color you can look like an evil candy cane bringing phaser damage to the galaxy instead of an upset stomach.

The poly count on those models are nice, but they do look pretty disgusting on the bridge commander engine

With 3d games, the first modelling secret I learned is less is more

Im not a real Star Trek Fan like other people...but i miss so many things in the game...more diplomacity less violence...and...one of the important things: Accurate Ship Models !

so...Cryptic...take a look at this and then you must answer yourself: What you've done the last years for this game...?

Your comment = FAIL
you fail. this means nothing when that 1920x1080 is spread over 40+ inches.

from wiki:

Note that the use of the word resolution here is misleading. The term “display resolution” is usually used to mean pixel dimensions (e.g., 1920×1200), which does not tell anything about the resolution of the display on which the image is actually formed. In digital measurement the display resolution would be given in pixels per inch.

a 42" 1080 tv is in the neighborhood of 52 pixels per inch.
a 19" widescreen is about 89 PPI

I dunno man, I see what you're saying but the fact that the game takes place well after any of the shows/movies could explain at least some of the differences...I guess.

Hell...I'm just happy that I'm able to have a good ol' Constitution class cruiser so I'm not inclined to bich that much about this particular topic.

There's a reason that each ship type has 3 classes at each tier. One is a classic Trek design, and I assume you don't have a problem with those. The next is an "updated" version of a classic hull design, and the final is Cryptic's own design. It was a dev post somewhere on the forums but don't remember exactly where.]
Not entirely true.

The T3 escort is actually just two classes of ship.

1. Akira
2. Norway
3. Cryptics own design

Despite teh Norway/Akira being two different ships =/
