Ok i been doing PvP for some time now and I don't know why but a lot of time I get my butt kick(Fed or KDF)
I have seen my shields drop like mad so I looked into the weapons they was using and got a better shield with more HP and blocks some of the dmg and my shield STILL drop like mad.
Its not even getting jump by a pack of players some times its just ONE person! I'm not sure why but I can't drain anyone shelds. On my Fed i have 4 phasers beating down on them and nothing! I have beam maxed out phasers maxed out and E-weapons maxed out and yet I can't even touch their shields?
I'm not crying over it or saying nerf I know I have to be doing something wrong here. So I'm coming here to get help from you PvP vets. Is just bad luck on my end or flat out pvping like a newbie?
Hi, I will provide some answers in the form of general guidelines.
First, ensure you are PVPing as a group and not as individuals. This means your team needs to be supporting you with buffs and repairs if you find your shields and hull dropping too quickly. Also make sure you are distributing your shield power to the appropriate facings.
Second, make sure you have survival abilities (i.e., repair and/or damage resistance buff). Some are: Reverse Shield Polarity, Science Team, Engineering Team, Emergency Power to Shields, Hazard Emitters. There are more, so take a good look at the Bridge Officer Power Store, or peruse similar threads on the forums.
Third, get to know which abilities share which systems (global cooldowns), and learn to rotate them accordingly. If you are anticipating an attack, activate your abilities pro-actively instead of retro-actively, but be wary of wasting cooldowns and leaving yourself vulnerable.
Lastly, invest in your abilities. Train skill points in the player skills that modify your survival abilities (e.g., Emitters and Hazard System for Hazard Emitters ability, etc.). Do exploration missions and PVP for exploration and PVP badges, and spend them at appropriate vendors (Earth Spacedock; Deepspace K7) for better equipment.
Also escort can use cannons, also put weapon power to max, rest in shields or aux depending on your needs. Broadside with beams to knock down shields faster, then follow thru with a nice high yield torp.
Chances are they are alpha striking you with rapid fire and maybe even directed energy modulation. This is not uncommon. There are a few ways to deal with this, including buffs/heals that raise your damage resists and temporary immunities.
Look into science team (and associated skills) for a shield heal that works on you and others, hazard emitters, engineering team - etc.
Also, map the 'equalize shield' key to something easy to hit, and get used to hammering that
