The man has a point, we really are science's idiot cousin. This is made much worse as science also seems to be making itself a good shield tanker.
The only role i have found to be useful for us is as battle-healers, clerics in space. Powers like shield transfer, for example, only go to confirming that role. I am at a loss as to why we even get rare officers when most of *them* still seem to have aceton field 3. I actually managed to find and buy one with reverse polarity three the other day and am testing that one out once my admiral ship arrives in a few levels.
I really like our ground role, but it puzzles me that the role of "builder" fails when it comes to space. You see all those space defences on the map, allegedly people like us built those. I`d be more than happy if my bridge officers could slap some of those down, even if we had to keep making them when the battle moved on.
I just got Auxillary To Structural III, and it's pretty awesome. As an engineer I use my EPS power to give me +25 to aux, and even running at a preset with aux set at 25 default, that gives me +40 to all defense when I use it. Stack that with Emergency Power To Shields III, Rotate Shield Frequency, and Science Team or Engineering Team...virtually untouchable for 30 seconds with all the defense buffs.
I haven't seen reverse shield polarity yet but I find using Emergency Power to Shields combined with Rotate Shield frequency to be great. When I am really getting focused in PvP combining those things with switching to the shield power setting really helps my survivability, add in a shield battery and it's even better but I usually like to save my device cooldown for an engine battery + evasive manuevers to get the F out of dodge.
Well, support drone is great, and reroute power to shields too. Cover shield and orbital strike on the other hand...
I don't know. I put a shield and medical generator at a slight LOS from the enemy mob and throw down a phaser turret for good measure and I'm well nigh invincible, at least in PvE. For some reason, mobs attack the turrets first, even though they throw off the least dps (at least in my experience). They seem to hold their own against everything except plasma grenades.
RSP works great on solo PvE, if that's your thing. But yes, in my escort with all cannons and torpedoes RSP is not gonna work against me.
EB
RSP is a godsend in T5 PvP. It actually works against cannons too. Torpedos though, no. But then the bleedthrough is so small it doesn't matter anyways.
RSP is good at the end if for no other reason than to force your enemy to switch targets, and by the time it wears off they've forgotten all about you.
But most of the time they'll wail on you a bit anyways and those few seconds they do is usually enough to recharge everything, pop Hazard Emitters/Eng Team, heal your allies, and basically keep yourself alive. Never could do that with EPS.
