Hey trekkies.

So, as the title shows, all of the above are true. I have played until level 8 on WoW, I am a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu x10 ^ 340 ge Star Trek nerd but no one knows... like a well-guarded porn mag or bloody glove in a deposit box in Sweden. Nevertheless, I have been reading up on STO since the beginning of January because I want something to play and invest a little time in to every now and then. Yeah I hear this game is heavily instanced, but honestly I'm not really one to complain. I did play City of Heroes for two weeks one time and found it pretty entertaining. Those guys make this, I guess I'll see how they compare after it finishes patching. I also hear the F button does everything. Press F for bomb diffusion, press F to talk, press F to ****. That last one makes sense though...

...uh, anyway I guess the point of this is to just see if there are any other people like myself out there playing this and what their impressions are. If you don't like the game, that's cool, but I've seen enough flaming and *****ing for several lifetimes over my run through the internet so please if you don't like it, be cordial. But hey, if you don't then why are you even reading this.

That's all for now, either this topic will go down the chart pretty quick or not, but I hope to get some sort of feedback. Thanks in advance, live long and prosper and all that.

First things first...

Noob=Idiot nobody wants to interact with.
Newbie=New player with many questions.

Now that we got that out of the way...

Welcome and hope you enjoy your stay.
Yeah the F key is for pretty much everything. (or whatever key you rebind it to)

This game, along with LOTRO (Lord of the Rings Online), brought a lot of new blood into the MMO Gaming hobby. Sure, other games did too, but these two have been the most noticeable. I for one welcome it.

Welcome, and I hope you enjoy the hobby.

Right, to awnser your question.

Iím a bit of a closet trekkie it has to be said but not a major one. And this is my first MMO, I did try WoW for five minutes and decided that it was a load of poo.

Now the highlights of STO for me are thus:

Flying large spaceships that go pew pew, and blowing other space ships up.

Being able to travel the known galaxies at will.

Make teams, friends, and if you have the patience, start up conversations.

Visiting Deep Space nine!

Spend hours goggling at pretty spaceships.

And a host of other little things that entertain me.

The ground combat sucks though, I donít much enjoy it and I always find someone to join me on ground missions just so the bloody things finish quicker.

The Player vs player aspect is a bit of a let down at this time. Youíll find a predominance of federation players are waiting to play and very few klingon players. You can wait quite some time for just one Player vs player game.

Anyway, being a trekkie will enhance the parts of the game you enjoy.

Haha, nice to see I'm not the only one.

I played this game until 4am after patching it last night, I was late to my psychology class. This is already not a good sign, hahaha.

So I made a Trill named Jiraz who is the captain of the science vessel USS Archimedes. Hopefully with new patches will come the rest of my starship, I want to explore the facets of my ship!

I'm probably going to be the slowest leveler in the world, but hey isn't that the definition of a noo-- uhm, I mean newbie? (see what I did there..)

Now, about that Romulan Ale...

Most important info that anyone will ever give you:

STAY OFF OF THE FORUMS!

If you want to enjoy the game, get out now.

Seriously, welcome and have fun.

truer words have never been spoken. as a counterpoint to myself vanilla WoW and Burning Crusade were alright, the overall suck factor has increased 10 fold since late BC though. basically they ended up ****ing on everyone that has played previous to 2009 in an effort to make more money in the long run.

i find this to be true simply because it has so much to live upto in comparison to the space combat. which happens to be very epic and lovingly crafted.

however, if you enjoyed City of Heroes or Champions Online, the ground combat should be semi-enjoyable because it is a direct rip out of those games.

the only thing that i am worried about in this game is a lack of endgame content. since that is where most of my time will be spent i would like to see something as new and exciting as the rest of this game.

at this time, it is my opinion that STO is a fantastic game and gets better the more you get into it. also if you are at any rate a trekie READ THE QUESTS. the things that are going on in this universe are effing mind blowing at times.

that is all.
