# 1 goo - green, yellow, etc
02-17-2010, 04:16 PM
Hiya
I was defending the Psi Valorum sector in my heavy cruiser.

I'm normally doing well except when the romulans shoot me with some kind of green or yelllow goo, and then my ship is just disabled for a few seconds. Can't move, can't fire. I don't remember the goo color but it was yellow or green. The second goo slows my ship to a crawl. Also one of the goos renders my boffs inactive for a few seconds.

I'm not sure what this is but would like to know. Also I would like to know how to defend against that form of attack.

Thanks

Hi, it can be helpful to read all the Bridge Officer abilities in the Power Store so you can get a general idea of what Crowd-Control (CC) measures currently exist. Of course, this will not descibe graphical effects, and some NPCs 'cheat' with unique abilities.

Now, to answer your question:

-purple dot fired at your ship, purple effect on your ship = Viral Matrix (sensor probe): completely disables your entire ship for a small duration

-puffy blue beam fired at your ship = Subnucleonic Beam (Science captain ability): similar to Viral Matrix, although you can still continue to move and fire normally

-green gas cloud in space = Eject Warp Plasma: applies Damage-over-Time (DoT) to your hull, lowers your flight turn and speed for a small duration

I noticed that Hirogen escorts seem to fire tricobalt torpedoes, which is a shorter variant of Viral Matrix. Borg cubes will completely disable your shields. And there are various other unique or variant abilities that other NPCs have.

Check out faithborn's Comprehensive List of Abilities and Counters, still a work in progress.

Good reply. ADDING:

The big Plasma bombs look like green blobs flying towards your ship sometimes, and they have a chance to covers your ship in green plasma fire.

I had a similar experience with the Cardassians and some Terran Federation science ships that made me wonder. I read through the available abilities at the officer store but couldn't find anything so just assumed it was either some NPC only skill or special shield ability.

What happens is that I will shut down the enemy ship with jam sensors and open fire. Every time a beam or cannon bolt strikes the enemy ship, I get this huge blue energy blast that bypasses shields and begins dealing direct damage to the hull. Obviously it's some sort of retribution skill that the Terran science ships and the Cardassian ships that um... Start with the letter M have... >.> I'm just curious about the skill, itself.

I'll have to go and take another look. In the meantime, if you come across something hitting you that you cannot identify, look in your Combat Log (chat window, Combat tab).

This is Feedback Pulse. The damage 'reflected' back to you is of type FeedbackPulse (in your Combat Log).
