Those are the stats from Steam showing how many people are logged in playing STO.... doesn't seem like so much

I know that's only Steam players and some are playing it with Steam turned off but still I would have thought that the number would have been much higher than that.
Sadly I doubt we will be told how many are playing STO at the moment or how many copies they sold... MMO companies seem to usually only release stats when they hit X million players.
Think I remember one of those many interviews with someone from Cryptic saying they sold something like in the 100.000 copies area.... anyone know?

When you consider what small percentage of players purchased through Steam I think that number says a lot.

I would say there is a large portion of steam users that don't run steam with this game because of past issues with updates. I'd imagine those steam numbers are significantly less than the actual steam users playing the game. Of course I don't have hard numbers so it's just my 2 cents.

With the number of TOS Constitution class vessels around in the game, I would way a majority seemed to have purchase the game from GameStop.

any tool that monitors only a select group of players cant be taken as an indication of overall playerbase.

be that steam, Xfire or any of the others.

all it shows is the amount of people who will play with those monitoring tools up and running.

i very much doubt we'll see official figures for player population, unless it breaks some kind of milestone, even then it'll be vague, like WoW's "over 11million players".. i mean does that mean 11 million and 1? 11 and 1/2 million?

its just not done really.

Steam also times it by PST; they're in Seattle WA USA.

It's 1044am there. Look at again at 7-8pm PST.

I got sto though steam and donít run steam that thing is a resource hog. Steam still thinks Iíve not even used the retail key yet. Iíd not be surprised to see a drop off of people when the first 30 days is up though.

It would be cool to see a real time monitor on the number of players. The only game I've seen that done is with Jumpgate. It would show you how many currently logged in, how many of each faction, and various statistics.
