I'm not saying that Steam is representative for how many players STO currently got... I just wish we could get some kinda idea how many players we are in total.... like said above it would be nice with some kinda counter on the front page displaying how many are logged in.

Does anyone know how many copies of STO has sold in total so far?

I checked it last week, on a weekday, around this same time, and the number was close to 4,000.

BTW, I am one of those 1,914.

2.37 million?!? In the first month?!? That's fairly impressive, consider the fact that outside of social netowrking mediums they did not put up a hugley heavy campaign. Considering that the game is 1 1/2 months old and marketed via grass roots ("buddy pass") and social networking I would say they should be proud of that accomplishment.

In terms of the "people playing" I would take that as a purely directional number. Not sure how they do it but they are probably making some assumption, "for every 1 steam player = 10 STO players" (assuming 10% of players are using steam).

The game is really fun and the amount of complaints on the forums really is just a drop in the ocean of representing the amount of people playing. Also its a great game for casuals and tbh I think the majority of concern is coming from the hardcore players.

Honestly, why do you care?

Short of them telling us the game is going offline and servers are being taken down, what difference does it make? Do you own stock in Atari or something?

I bought STO from Steam, but don't bother to start up Steam when I log into STO.

Also don't forget that the 1-2k people online - might not be the same 1-2k people online an hour later. It's more of a rolling figure rather than full total.

Thats a very good point. I wouldn't put to much stock in those numbers. The game has a solid population and we won't see who stays or goes untill roughly 3 months in. I think Season 1 will deffently weed out the non-serious STOers with the serious ones.
