Why?

Why not? It's interesting.....

Why so defensive?

Same for mt GF and I. We don't run the Steam client, ever.

I bought STO from Steam, but I never use Steam to launch STO. As I am sure there are others doing the same as me I think that makes Steam's numbers meaningless.

I got game from gamestop, but I usually have the steam client open as I play a lot of Audiosurf.

Those are the stats from Steam showing how many people are logged in playing STO.... doesn't seem like so much

Link to Steam Stats page:
http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

I know that's only Steam players and some are playing it with Steam turned off but still I would have thought that the number would have been much higher than that.
Sadly I doubt we will be told how many are playing STO at the moment or how many copies they sold... MMO companies seem to usually only release stats when they hit X million players.
Think I remember one of those many interviews with someone from Cryptic saying they sold something like in the 100.000 copies area.... anyone know?

STEAM SUCKS!
it ruined L4d and DoW2

I don't run steam unless I need to, Also, I didn't buy it off steam or add it to my list on steam. Don't really care if it knows what I'm playing. So I would be an example of this. I went thru amazon for the borg boff

bought from steam, don't run it. And I agree with the skill cap and DP and no micro transactions... and please lower the game purchase price to get new people to buy...lol that should about cover the bases

Really currently in game:

41736 Players and its not peak time right now. :p
Not bad for a game that supposedly serves a limited niche market of hardcore players.
